So what you're saying is you didn't watch the WJC this year? - HonkFortheGoose
WJC is a much different game. Yes I even woke up at the butt crack of dawn to watch. But what I'm saying is we don't need a Seth Jones. We need a scorer to build the team around. Someone who veterans would want to come play with.
We need something to be excited about...Not a defenseman. |

so this is the problem i see with the sabres
there is no heart at all, the players are lazy and dont play with/for each other, they are more focused on what to say that is "politically correct" and they have no accountability
that is a leadership problem, as well as a coaching issue, the players need to want to play and want to win and go out there 100%
the sabres probably have more skill and talent then the devils, a better goalie, and all, but the devils find ways to win because they play as a unit, they have breakdowns but normally they have plans that help minimize the damage, they work hard and are aggressive, they hold each player accountable and make sure that everyone plays the same type of game (even kovy is playing more of the devils style)
adam oats recently went to the caps GM and said he wants his room and style, to have the same type of "culture" as the devils, where winning is the only acceptable answer
you can blame things on this player and that, but its a team game, there needs to be a system in place that helps when something doesnt go to plan - dmarsden2988
Starts and stops with the captain.

I thought we had that in Myers and mcnabb? - The_Inkwell
McNabb is going to be a very good defenseman but I don't know that I'd call him the "cornerstone" kind of guy.
Besides, if you could have a defense that looks like this in 3 years, would you hate it?
Pysyk/McNabb
McCabe/Jones
Myers/??
The potential that's possessed there is incredible. Doesn't mean that it will pan out the way we want, but it's something to get excited about and look forward to. |

Neither were projected as top picks, so you could argue jones has more upside.
/shrug. A lot of our problems start in our back end. Failure to clear, failure to control the puck through the neutral zone, weak to opposing teams forechecks... The list goes on. |

Seth jones had a very mediocre tournament. McCabe and Trouba had a far more consistent and better tournament.

Yep. I believe that better clears and better puck control creates more scoring opportunities, but yeah, there's a ton of issues.
I don't think a patch or one good young defenseman is going to "fix" this team.
And I'm totally not opposed to either mackinnon or drouin. Our winger position is weak but a lot of young good centers is never a bad thing. |

Key word is potential. I'd love to have Jones but I'd hate to waste a top pick on "potential".

Not really.
Their failure has grown to epic proportions.
That franchise is laughed about in every neighborhood of every city of every state.
The Bills = #insignifcant
But it's my opinion.
That circus has gone on far too long.
And now they try to sell the fanbase Tarvaris Jackson/Ryan Fitzpatrick and a college coaching staff.
Good luck with that garbage. - TerryPegs

Drouin winger mackinnon center, far as I know. I dunno who I'd prefer between the two. Our organizational winger depth is poop, but centers are invaluable, |
