It's not his fault he was a distraction and embarrassment. The isles created that distraction with a ludicrous contract that even PA Parenteau couldn't live up to. Throw in the injuries and the extremely long over due demotion of dipietro, this still isn't his fault.

He worked hard, had about 14 surgeries, stuck up for the team in the media always and was proud to be here. Problem was, he couldn't stop a puck anymore and the isles wheeled him out there about 40 games too many

"he was one of the worst things to distract the legitimacy of this franchise"

he didnt buy out the contract of the all time leading point getter for the franchise
he didnt buy the franchise with no money & then get arrested
he didnt control the slum the team has played in over the last 2 1/2 decades
he didnt try to change the jersey to a fisherman
he didnt offer a 15 year contract
he didnt keep Mike Milbury imployed for a decade too long
he didnt fire a GM after 15 days
he didnt hire a GM off the bench
he didnt try to sell Ziggy Palffy
he didnt dump raw sewage into the locker rooms
he didnt run this team like a circus
Jesus I can go on & on, from Boe, to Pickett, to the gang of 4, Milstein Gluckstern, Spano, Wang, Mike Milbury, Don Maloney.

And you think an oft injured goalie is the what was hurting the "legitimacy of this franchise" SERIOUSLY??

XxNYIxX

P.S. He's gone.. we still suck

- XxNYIxX

Wow, I just pretty much posted the same thing. I'm glad he's gone don't get me wrong. Like everyone else I wished it worked out. The point is there are far worse embarrassments then DP, far worse. He was one of many but there were worse.

Figured we needed some levity today. Big game tonight gentlemen. No reason the isles can't get back into it. These next 8 games are a softer part of the schedule.

Have a feeling buffalo comes out flying tonight at home with new coach. Lets see the isles match that

They have reason too. New coach or not. Enough with the excuses. Either you play to win or you don't. You can't show up for one or two periods, this team has been doing it for far too long now. Hopefully DP is the first of many changes, for a "rebuilding" club this team needs a complete over haul.

Those 3 games I played this year took a lot out of me. RT @StapeNewsday: DiPietro was given permission to take this weekend for himself.

This is true. I agree. The problem is the attitude this entire club has. It is not a winning attitude. Don't forget, "they win sometimes"

The only thing he has done which is negative to the franchise is that he has been completely useless to them, pretty much since a year or so after he signed that contract. He played many games he should not have- you have to admire the guy for "wanting" to play, but he probably would have been the one to know he should not have been playing, and should have admitted that to himself and everyone else. The bottom line now is that:

- he has been gone so long, that he has completely forgotten everything he learned about what he should NOT be doing when he plays the goal. It took him five years to learn, he was good for two, now he's been out for five, and he has forgotten, and needs to start all over again. He can start by watching film of himself...especially the part where he refuses to put his stick on the ice where it belongs, so pucks don't go directly between his pads, and into the net. That alone would save him at least two goals a game.

- that said, the REAL problem is he has ALWAYS been unorthodox and he has ALWAYS relied on his quick reflexes to make up for some of the asinine things he does in the net. Unfortunately, the reality is that he is twelve years older now, and his body is beat to bloody he11. The reflexes aren't what they used to be. He's going to have to go to plan B, because plan A won't cut it anymore. The problem there is that I just don't know if he's capable of playing goal like a normal goalie, which is his only choice, at this point.

The thing for me is that I DO NOT hate "him". I hate the fact that he SUCKS. That is what we all hate.

Brilliance? Wow, doesn't take much huh? I would'nt call either of this moves "brilliant". I'll take someone with more experience that gets respect around the league and from FA's. I don't know why some Islanders fans have this bizzare admiration for Snow?

ok ok...brilliance wasnt the right word lmao...and i agree with you to find someone that is more respected....however, he has been working with spare change over the past 6 years lol

Meh, he has thrown real money at some high profile FA's and had it thrown back in his face. I'd rather have someone who is capable. Just my opinion, I don't think Snow is as smart as he thinks he is or the few fans that have this strange thing for him?

I think he is just inexperienced and it shows. He had no one of experience show him the ropes. He literally went from playing to GM in 2 hours. No matter how smart you are, if you aren't experienced it doesn't matter

Agreed... If it was not for the injuries resulting in constant surgery and rehab that caused his diminishing skill... He is exactly what ever Owner/GM/Fan wants in a player...

its also true that if they actually do get new ownership, there should be a clean slate, it would kind of be meaningless to keep him with new ownership

We had Mike Milbury as our GM,
- Cptmjl

You could have stopped here- we're still cleaning up that mess, and this goaltender is a prime example of that fact....the worst GM, EVER. IMO, he made two of the top ten worst trades in the history of professional sports. 20% of THE WORST DECISIONS EVER MADE, EVER, by ANYONE running a sports franchise. You'd almost have to want to f**k your job up on purpose to make trades like that.

We are still living him down, especially since he also apparently spent all the money Wang wanted to EVER spend on this hockey team to only be good enough to "make the playoffs", and get spanked in the first round, and now they have none to spend on real players to make this young team into a good team. THAT is THE disaster here. DiPietro has only played like 30 games in the last six years, so he is a small part of the issue.....my frustration with him has mostly been a frustration with THEM for waiting until yesterday to do what they should have done a LONG TIME AGO...

Absolutely had alot to do with it. Like i said earlier, enough with the excuses. Put people who are capable at doing the job they were hired to do in the positions suited for their expertise. Incredible how these high public profile jobs/high paying jobs get filled with incompetent people. Not only that they can continue to fail and not do their job yet retain them? How Charles Wang became a billionaire is beyond me? The way he has handled the NY Islanders is insulting to a couple generations of fans. Most of the time I'm convinced he was thinking he was making smart decisions when in fact they were down right insane. Crazy

well that seems to be a recurring problem with Wang. Leaving people who are doing a horrible job in positions they should'nt be. Boggles the mind that this guy is/was a self made billionaire.

This is why I would hire Lindy Ruff. Lindy got sh*t canned because his team is cr*p, and Regier is covering his own behind, because he knows he's next....these are the games we need to win if we're going to have a shot at making the dance, because they aren't any better than we are....they really aren't, much as everyone thinks we suck more than anyone else. We just need better coaching at this point.
