There's plenty of positives, they're in a playoff position despite being one of the youngest teams in the league, missing two top-6 wingers, a top-4 d-man, and their #1 goalie.
Their biggest contributors are their young guys, who have bright futures.
Both goalies are young and doing awesome.
Team finally has an identity, and is playing a great defensive system.
I just reposted that stat, because it seems to have struck a nerve with mr. killian, after a jab about the Leafs' goaltending by a Penguins poster.

Sounds like the team is getting better. Now you'll only have to get rid of Phaneuf's contract. Send him to Philly. Maybe you guys can fleece them once again like you did on the Schenn/Van Riem deal

ok well you can talk when your team wins a cup again...my guess would be that it will be another 46 years...na, they probably still won't win won by then - Killian
Sure buddy, we'll be seeing u in the Eastern Conference finals.
Dipietro to the the Leafs for the Isles 1st rnd pick in 2013..........makes sense for the Ilses, seeing as they dont care if they are garbage year after year, and Wang will save a butload of money.......Leafs will then make the playoffes and draft Top 5

Why on earth would we want to get rid of Phaneuf?
Guy's better defensively than he's ever been, and he's been finding the back of the net lately.
So by your logic you believe the islanders are better than the penguins? Cheer for your team all you want; pick a relevent thread if you want to call out the leafs. - 10in_soft
The best part is, during the 25 years that there were only 6 teams, the Rangers missed the playoffs like 18 times, and won ONE playoff series (there were only three total, every year). That is a record that is hard to beat. I have to figure that if there were only six teams, and you were one of them, you'd probably have to win the Cup once by accident over that period of time.

Well Phaneuf & Luke hate each other so I doubt Dion would have chemistry with the the Schenn bros. Do the math, Luke would have to come back the other way. However, I'll always prefer Dion over Luke & since Kadri is playing better than Brayden, Philly can keep the Schenn bros. Wow never thought I'd be saving that.

You guys have to make up your minds. Most Toronto fans I've talked to said he was playing like crap. Anyway, I guess a few good games makes him the best physical d-man in the league again.

i would be absolutely shocked if anyone actually took DiPietro
arguably the worst contract in the league - at least most of the other decade-long albatrosses actually play most of the time

well, the few you talked to were wrong. Even when he wasn't putting up numbers earlier in the season, he was playing strong defensive hockey. Now he's getting the offense going.
You trade for DiPi, buy him out with the compliance buyout so that New York doesn't have to do it. - Feeling Glucky?
Ah sneaky. I thought he was implying someone would actually trade for DP for the purposes of actually playing him. But yeah somehow that seems totally illegal, or at least it should be.
That would be like the most expensive draft pick ever though.

It's a way of buying talent.

Only issue is that I'm pretty sure the player being bought out needs to have played a minimum number of games with the team buying them out. - Feeling Glucky?
i could be missing your point, but why does that work for a team thats potentially claiming him?
