Hate to pull out the whole "2010 character guys" thing, but Campbell and Brouwer were two of the nicer hockey players I've ever met. - prd797
Soupy was a pretty cool dude. Lived down the street from my daughters in Lincoln Park -- they walked by his place on Belden one day and he was just getting out of his Land Rover with his then girlfriend/fiance'. They both said hi to him by name and he said hi back. His girlfriend was clearly pissed because I heard about the dirty look she gave Soupy at that moment -- like, who are those 2 girls you're saying hello to?!
Haha, I don't think Kane needed Toews to get him in line. Truthfully think he was just an immature child who had some things to get out of his system. Most men hit that stage somewhere between 13 and 25.
I am under the impression most of the off season work he has done has been on his own accord and with their strength coach. Also think he has hit the point this year where he is more comfortable being a leader/man on the ice. Saw glimpses last year when he took over after Toews went down and now it appears there is some consistency to that dominating player. Normal maturation process.
Thinking Toews is the angel on everyone's shoulder is absurd. Met him twice. Came off as rather arrogant and unapproachable. The kid is a winner but not this mythological savior that is some kinda father figure to everyone else. - fattybeef
Well, I never bought the Toews/Kane buddy angle. That was/is marketing bs. Toews is a pretty private kid and does have a bit of a chip on his shoulder. Uber competitive type, and those guys are not always teddy bears.
I will tell you my niece has spent time with him socially and says he is a true gentleman, FWIW.
As far as 88, there is evidence to suggest he has turned a corner. But it is still "recent." My jury is still out there.

I would think the same of 88; both are young kids who their whole lives have people drooling over them in one way or another.
I felt the same way when I met 19 the first time. Very disappointing. Even HOSSA was (slightly) friendlier than Toews. It was really unexpected.
Nicest players on the team I have met are Bickell and Stalberg - CBHawks88
Yeah not to take anything away from him being a winner, really good hockey player and awesome on ice leader. I just don't buy some of the other stuff.
Hossa is just typical Eastern European and I bet being able to speak Slovakian would garner a warmer reaction IMO. They usually aren't fans of people outside their club.

Every time the Hawks play the Nucks all I can see is red...... oh wait that's not what you meant - Ballam
From a pure marketing standpoint, I'm actually a bit surprised that McD doesn't insist on a different 3rd jersey every year. As much of traditionalist as I am, I'm sure I would hate most of them, but between the straight black, the retros, and other options, they are probably missing the boat on a fairly substantial revenue stream.
The feathers of the head dress in the Indian Head logo contains Red, Black, Yellow, Blue, Green, and Orange...imagine the current Hawk jersey in each of those base colors. The logo is so cool, and so colorful, that a jersey would look good in any of those colors. I would hate it, but I imagine each one of those colors would be popular with some people, and some would probably be lined up to collect one of each. Different color every year.
If it's me though, the only change I'd make To the current jerseys is to add the laces. Then, for the 3rd I'd go with a different retro jersey every couple of years.

The people who feel that Toews is an Angel also feel that Toews and Kane sleep in bunk beds at home.
I follow your logic on the black throwback jersey and many of the alternate jerseys of especially the newer teams. But the Hawks plain black third jersey is PIMP and classic. - John Jaeckel
Love uniform talk...
It's not a classic (I'll give you PIMP). It was invented in the 90's. Yankees don't wear alternates. Hawks shouldn't either. Just my personal preference.
Once he was off sonw, his body was in constant pain from his career. Then Pain Killers came into play. It was hard to read because I loved Probert. Growing up in the 90's both he and Tony Amonte were my favorite Blackhawks. I even had a soft spot for Zhamnov after he did the one-handed move in Detroit. Pain Killers are the drugs IMO that need to be monitored much more with Athletes. - nickmo2699
Part of it is being informed to ask about alternative non addictive medicines
Im about to start radiation treatments and my biggest concern is getting addicted to the pain killers. You finish one battle and have to start the next recovery from the drugs used to tolerate the pain

You would think he would milk it for all it's worth.. I never have liked the green ones but the black ones as i said look real nice!

Personally, I'm not worried how "nice" Toews is. The guy is a complete hockey player and I just want to see him win. That being said, I don't want the guy to be a complete wiener, but he doesn't have to be Little Mr. Sunshine either.
Better than the Winter Classic retro sweater was the 75th Anniversary throwback. I have an un-numbered one, which I love. It's more historically accurate than the WC sweater. - scottak
Bring back Tallon on the COLOR!!!! Im sick of listening to Eddy "Paycheck." I also think it is a joke that they are honoring him. - nickmo2699
Getting sick of both of 'em (Foley and "Edzo") to be honest. I cannot stress enough that I didn't care for Olcyzk as a player, and I don't care for him as a broadcaster. Foley's a$$-kissing on the broadcast isn't helpful either
