Good for Nick. Had no idea he could do that. Not that he fared well in the fight, but the notion that we would even drop the mitts at all.....

I was at the game and watched Parros drop the gloves and thought..."oh, wonder who he is fighting". Had no idea it was Grossmann until they actually squared off. I also wonder if Nick asked for the fight or not.

- johndewar

Nope. It was Parros who was looking to go.

And Bryzgalov hasn't done that this year? He's done that more times then I could possibly recall. Bryzgalov hasn't played as well the last few games. But the focus is in the wrong place.
- MJL

Yes, Bryzgalov has kept them in games they should have been out of, and he's been way more consistent this year. And yes, a bigger commitment to team defense this year would lead to fewer odd-man rushes/breakaways. But still, it seems like once a player has a breakaway/PS, you might as well just notch one more for the other team. I believe that's the original point being made, that he seems to be less than average when it comes to stopping breakaways/penalty shots/shootout attempts. Not stats to back it up at my disposal, just general observation.

specifically talking about breakaways. the way bryz has been trending lately, i'm surprised boosh wasn't given the call. even joe wanted him rested last nite.

I believe he did. Parros patted Nik on the hip before they got up in a sportsmanlike gesture.

You guys think that game may have been a self-fulfilling prophecy? Everything about it screamed trap game so maybe the Flyers got that in their heads and they were done before the puck even dropped.
- NickTheKid87

I thought they had some jump. They just played a really stupid, undisciplined, poor game. Does that mean a trap game? Or does it mean this team is just inconsistent? A case can be made for both.

I wonder if the news about Read kinda shell shocked the team.

Really? That actually surprises me because there was really nothing for the Parros (and by proxy, the Panthers) to gain from Parros fighting at that point of the game.

The Flyers were down by a bunch and listless, so I kind of assumed that the Flyer (Grossmann) initiated to fire the team up.

I think he tends to over think the 1-on-1 situations, especially with creative players like Huberdeau baring down on him. Bryz is a smart dude and we know he's thoughtful.

I hear you, but pick your battles. The game was 4-0 at that point? It was pretty much game over. What if Parros fractures his jaw, or concusses him or something? Like I said I give him credit for having the guts, just didn't think it was very wise.
- PLindbergh31

I like that he did it. He could have picked a better time, but it was definitely a leadership move.

Timonen's out there playing banged up, so his effectiveness is hurt and Briere's game has been a mess. A huge issue for this team is that all the veteran leadership guys have struggled more than the kids have.

I agree, don't think this can be pinned on one thing. I think the Pit game definitely played apart as well as the rest of the road trip and the "trap" aspect. They did have their chances, just couldn't capitalize.

Agreed.

Laviolette deserves to be 2nd guessed for even starting Bryz. I think Bryz leads all goalies in minutes played. If there was a night off to give to Bryz, it would have been last night.

If you watch the replay, the lined up and Grossmann was talking to him the whole time. Grossmann at the least was willing.

I'm pretty much convinced Danny is getting bought out unless he averages a point per game from here on out and has a huge playoffs (which they might not even be in).

I didn't expect Talbot to score at the clip he did last year but I also didn't expect him to have only 4 assists this year. Couple that with his substandard defensive play and you've got a frustrating player to watch.

I don't think Cuz will be a big time scorer in the NHL. Maybe a 20-20 guy or 15-25 but I doubt he touches 60 points.

Wow...didn't realize he was leading (even has a higher PPG than Trochek). As a Flyers fan, hope he's innocent.

I think it's a correct general observation. Lately he tries to go for a pokecheck and whiffs just like last night.

Yup. Exactly. Last year was a career year for Mad Max. Didn't expect him to duplicate that, but didn't think he would be without a goal in 20 games either. Scoring isn't even what concerns me, he hasn't played very well defensively.

it is still quite possible that bryz could play his way outta town depending on what happens the rest of the way. i'd like to see the team in front of him give him the best chance to succeed...they need to tighten things up.

He might also lead the OHL in felony charges. Not gonna get my hopes up.
