I heard bryz talk about the # of games w/in the month being 19 when it's usually 15 and one could infer given the context & tone of his voice, that he was saying he was fatigued...didn't hear the whole interview.

There is a lot of talk about this team always thinking "attack, attack, attack".

I dont see it.

Where is the proof? Its not as if they are sending all 5 guys to crash the crease on every rush. Nowhere in any attacking scheme does it say for a forward to be stupid and just throw the puck away.

Lava's system needs only one real thing to make it work, that the team is not doing. The forwards to not be lazy, and to back-check.

How many times is a player seen just gliding back game after game.

D-men letting guys behind them or completely missing coverages? Maybe that is simply them not being good enough.

I can't believe Chicago is undefeated. They aren't more talented then the Flyers and not as good in net, but then continue to win.

Even back to back games.

Visor !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you drive you car without a windshield because it affects your vision ?

NHL should make it mandatory to wear one. If they don't, the GM should or try and pressure the player into wearing one to protect his investment.

“To get your 100th goal, it’s something special, something I’ll never forget,” said Cousins, who was booed by those remaining in the crowd of 2,646 when he was announced as the game’s first star.

I thought they should have started Boucher after that tilt in Pittsburgh

When you're talking about players back checking and not gliding, you're right that really has nothing to do with a Coach or a system. But there is far more to playing well defensively then back checking. You ask where the proof is? It's clearly evident in their play. This team and it's players always gamble on the offensive side of the puck. Even when they have little chance of getting on the puck on the forecheck, it's 2 guys in hard, and a 3rd guy most times in an aggressive posture. One pass and two guys are beat. If you can beat that initial forecheck against the Flyers and outlet the puck above the circles. It's a clear skate right to the Flyers zone, with little resistance. Look at the last two games. How many long up ice diagonal passes did the Pens make up ice? All game long. There are no layers to the Flyers forecheck. Look at how the Devils play. They are aggressive on the puck deep when it's there. But if not they read and react and there is a second level of forecheck in the high zone and neutral zone that you have to beat. There aren't nearly as many free skates and passing lanes up ice as there is against the Flyers. Then discussing the defensive zone team defensive coverage is a whole other couple of paragraphs.
This team's identity, instilled by it's Coach is to attack at all times. With few exceptions of game situations where they'll go into a hybrid Left Wing lock, such as behind a line change.
There are a lot of problems that are player issues. Players just not doing what they're supposed to do. But look at how this team plays overall defensively. Do they look well Coached? There are some definite elements missing in the Flyers gameplan and systems play defensively.
The best teams know when to attack, and know when to check. And they can do both equally well depending on the situation. The Flyers right now can't. They better hope their aggressive forecheck is on, and they score some goals. And that Bryzgalov plays very well.

I would say they are more talented then the Flyers. And they have players that are developed and ready for prime time. It's easy to see why they're so good.

Thought if me be unavailable for discussion tonight but as fate would have it....

Anyway, I the flyers too often are clueless defensively. It's not just the young players either, Talbot and Timmonen have been guilty too. I just don't know anymore but I think the Lavy era is coming to a close.

It's possible, if things don't tighten up, that Laviolette could be toast. My worry is that the veterans have been as up and down as the kids. You need the vets to show the way, but they haven't been good enough

Inconsistency is the biggest issue. Talbot with the exception of the penalty covering the puck with his hand, was great in the Pens game. In the Florida game, watch the replay of the 2nd Mueller goal. Mueller literally skates right by Talbot on his way to the net, to score a goal. He is completely unaware of who was coming late, and he was basically a spectator. It's unacceptable. And it's symptomatic of why this team is a below .500 team.

It is. My larger point is, that kind of mental mistake is a lot more acceptable if a 21 year old kid is doing it, instead of the $1.75mm per year guy signed to be a defensive specialist.

Say they lose the next 4 games. I think they drop 5 in a row at home, Laviolette is their new pro scout for the New England region and Terry Murray is the coach

That's why I'm buying into this system stuff lately. It doesn't make sense that guys like talbot forgot how to back check, it's what he does. Also message or no message Lavy has to start Boucher last night IMO. Boosh is part of the team and is/ should be capable of winning some games here and there. Bryzgalov has not looked right the past week. Might wanna even give him a day off tommorow. I don't know. If the backups are so bad you can't play them then forget about the playoffs because your starter is gonna be cooked and your backups are so bad you can't play them against crap teams. This is a frustrating time to be a flyer fan I know that.

Happy with the win in Pittsburgh but then the ugly side of this team rears its head 24 hours later and IMO the coach didn't do much to alleviate the situation.

Can't expect veterans to be perfect every single night either. I totally understand what your saying though. Veterans shouldn't continue to keep making the same mistakes over and over.

Absolutely. If it's growing pains of young players, it's one things. But it's as much the veterans. And the Flyers style and identity that the Coaching staff instills and preaches. That doesn't help.

Just feel that the Flyers organization is committed right now to Lavi. They may disagree on style of play right now but that has more to do with the team that was built by the GM then the coach IMO.

Not expecting perfection, but expecting a guy with 7 years in the league to not make the same mistakes as a rookie would.

Laviolette's fate will be tied to how the team performs. This organization has little patience when the coach doesn't deliver wins.

Not that I disagree with what your saying but the team assembled has it's holes and that was create by the GM during the offseason.
