Wasn't his goal and job to win a Stanley Cup? A low seed playoff team doesn't vindicate Burke. He was suppose to be able to do much, much more than that.

Good on Burke for moving on. The team that has played so well so far this season is one he constructed and has promise going forward. It's very possible his tenure will be vindicated in hindsight.

Hopefully he does not become GM

Here's the funny thing, though: if Guy Incognito had taken over the Leafs and had done the exact same thing, you'd probably be (begrudgingly) giving the guy his props for slowly, surely building up the entire organization.

But Burke himself set the bar much higher. He wasn't interested in a five-year rebuild.

Well, if that's what you want us to judge you by...

Contrary to your post above, I'm not actually gay. But I am a Leafs fan, and it's practically the same thing.

We are made fun of by idiots.

At times, we even fear violence by the truly stupid (Flyers fans).

We are constantly asked why we don't just switch teams (are you really this stupid? I didn't choose to be a Leafs fan - I was born this way).

For a long time, we felt safest in bars around Church Street.

There's one major difference, though, which actually makes being gay better than being a Leafs fan:

Every year, they get a parade.

One of my favorite Burke moments: when he called out Leafs fans for booing Phaneuf.

I thought that took real guts. And, honestly, he was 100% right.

Sorry, Leafs Nation, but we lost any credibility we might have had to assess the talent of D-men a long time ago.

Anyone know what it takes to have a team removed from the NHL? I'm sick of the Canucks.

If a different guy, did the exact same thing, it still wouldn't be "prop" worthy because it didn't start off as a slowly but surely rebuild. It was a gross miscalculation of talent and a short cut that robbed this team of a proper foundation. Whether it was Burke or anybody else who did it, it was still a massive mistake that will continue to haunt this franchise for years.

Burke did himself no favors with his self-generated hype machine on full blast.

To my dying days, I'll always maintain:

If you subtract the Kessel deal, Burke was a great GM for the Leafs.

But you can't subtract the Kessel deal.

Even with the Kessel deal he was a good GM for the Leafs....he just needed to stay out of the media.

We lost a trade. It happens. As much as I'd like to throw that one on Burkes back, I'd have to say that he was a good GM. Kessels a great player, so is Gardiner, Phaneuf, JVR, Lups, Franson, and surprisingly Frattin and Kadri.

No, unfortunately, you can't. Hopefully, Nonis can correct that mistake. But odds are he won't and we have to wait for the next rebuild to get things done right. And one would still have to hope that they take a careful look at history and avoid making the same mistakes.

Burkie telling off steve simmons was pretty awesome too. I think cherry nailed it, if burke had changed coaches sooner he would still be around, but he didnt. The team so far this year looks like what burke was talking about. It will be interesting to see how burkes picks develop. imo his twnure cant be fully evaluated yet.

So according to the Gospel of Uggie, you don't want to finish 8th, just to get bounced in the first round.

But what if the Habs finished first?

I sometimes feel like you're here lurking just to pounce on our mistakes.
PS. Weber is looking great now, good thing I don't let my hockey pool decisions get influenced by my feelings about players. He's saving me now that Karlson is hurt.
