The Leafs brought Finn to watch the game last night, nice move, they did it with Sparks too.

Only thing I dislike about Finn is he looks like a hippy.

How about this?

You make the first round pick top 5 protected, except it works in favor of the Leafs. That is, if their pick is outside the top 5, we wait until the next year. Or the next year. Or the next year.

Basically, the next time they get a top 5 pick, we have claim to it.

- Leeman4Gilmour

I just don't know if one first round pick (at any slot) is worth $24 million dollars.

It's an interesting question, because it has never been done before.

But it just seems to me that if the Leafs are going to essentially give up $24 million to help out the Islanders, they would want more than just one draft pick from the Isles.

My answer to these questions is always this:

If the Islanders need to spend more money to hit the cap floor, they would prefer to spend money on a good player, rather than just spending money on a bad player like Komi.

Okay fine......... we'll give them Connolly

I would only do it for a first overall pick, or a first line player currently playing.

$24 million may be chump change to MLSE, but there are few if any teams that would do it to begin with.

Rick DP on waivers.

Means they're trading for Luongo and Nino is going back the other way.

Price
Lou (like it or not)
Ward
Is my guess

Considering lou has the 2nd lowest GAA and the 5th highest save percentage in the league right now...only a fool would not want him on the team.

For contract buyouts, the players receive 2/3 of their remaining money owed.

That puts Rickie DP's price tag at $24 million, not $36 million.

- Atomic Wedgie

but they also get two compliance buy outs in which you pay the player out in full and it does not count against the cap. they get one 2013-2014 and one 2014-2015. its a 36 million dollar buy out but he does not count towards the cap.

Something to think about: the highest the Leafs' payroll ever was before the lock-out was US$65 million in 2002-03.

Adjusted for inflation, that's roughly US$81 million in 2012 dollars (I'm leaving out the difference in exchange rates between 2003 and 2012 for simplicity).

So, with a cap of 64 million next year, they're saving almost $20 million that they would have spent anyway with no cap.

But then there's the lost playoff revenue. The cap has hurt them more than it's helped financially.

I don't think you pay them out in full - it's 2/3.

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/...-buy-out-wade-redden.html

The accelerated compliance buyout, approved in the new labour deal, means Redden will earn a pro-rated $3.341 million for this season plus two-thirds of the $5 million he was set to earn next season.

Actually, looking at the Redden buy out - it looks like full freight for this year, and 2/3 for next year.

Weird.
