Given his interest in former players, I'd say it increases. He's probably got his eye on a few guys in the system that he'd like.
Maybe a couple minor deals here and there for late picks. That kind of thing. |

Technically the team Burke built is on the ice for the Bruins.

Yeah...you would thnk Burke may value the players he attained in Toronto more than any other GM. It would make for some interesting negotiations. According to Burke Mac is worth more than a 1st rounder for example... |

Can't remember the last time a scout made a trade.

last year it was.. not so this year |

i doubt his opinions have stayed the same.. his affiliation is elsewhere..
what will happen is murray will ask him his opinion on a player.. and he will get an honest answer.. whereas before.. burke would intentionally inflate the value of a player on his team.. always overstate your assets and understate the return when making deals.. simple rule of business. |

True...but Burke is a polarizing figure - his powers of persuasion will overcome Bob Murray...hypnotized like a Scientology recruiter.
No? Yeah you're right -...Burke probably just wants to scout high school hockey tournaments and go fishing. |

Yes, but try telling anyone we won the Kessel trade so far using the same logic.
Oh, no, please don't. |

Unless he is planning to replace Murray, odds are he's just making a stop over in Anaheim so that he can start being involved in hockey matters rather than being the most expensive lawyer for MLSE. He won't be there long unless he's happy with not being a GM. Can't see him being there long enough to really be involved in anything major. |

What needs to be recognized is this is really just a giant FU to Burkie.
If they fired him outright, he would still be on the payroll.
By giving him a role as executive consultant to the bathroom cleaning staff, it forced him to quit to take on a new job.
By quitting, he forfeits any compensation.
Too bad it doesn't affect the cap. |

my point still stands..
as of right now.. for this season.. the ducks have benefited at the NHL level more than the leafs on that deal
so leaf fans might want to tone down their braggart swagger when it comes to that deal |

I loved his bluster and bombast.
But at the end of the day, he failed to live up to the goals he himself publicly stated. |
