They came within a game of winning it all, they've both won Art Ross Trophies, a Hart Trophy, a Ted Lindsay Trophy, they've held up their end of the bargain!! They just didn't have a good enough group around them to win it all, not their fault.

To a point. Real leaders can make average great. They have failed to do that. They have made themselves look great. that wis where his talent evaluation failed.

I'll jump on this and another comment made earlier ... he is an overated, self indulged blow hard ......

what talent did he draft for the Ducks that had any impact on their Cup win?? Murray drafted the players.... Burke traded for Pronger when Edmonton had no leverage and signed Scott Neidemeyer, who wanted to play with his brother. Not the most diffciult thing in the world to orchestrate.

Further, drafting the twins was almost as easy as drafting Crosby .... sure he had to make a trade to get 1-2, but that doesnt mean he has an eye for talent..... that means he 'won' that trade, then picked the best two players in the draft.

- GadesnSens

Yeah, I don't understand the move to scout, he's never been good at evaluating or drafting young players, almost every draft you look at there were far better players taken after his picks. And nobody try to give him credit for his loophole exploitation draft of Pavel Bure, either.

Maybe they're using him to scout pro talent? He does seem adept at finding NHL players who would look better in another system and bringing them in.

Take a look at that draft year, you idiot, and tell me where he could have drafted better.

That is all.

The Sedins aren't good enough to carry their team to a cup, and disappointed against Nashville and Boston - doesn't mean they shouldn't have been drafted where and when they were.

You answered your own question. He could have drafted anybody that year and it could have been no worst than what the Sedins are. It's all about talent evaluation. You should know leaders traits, and you should know followers traits. Maybe he knew what he was getting.

Pretty stupid statement. Easy to look at the drafts now and point out the better choices. Look at all the successful picks Detroit made that were 53rd, 210th or 171st.

Dear Brian,

The Leafs need a #1C and could use a first line winger. Speak to you this summer if not before.

We appreciate your loyalty.

Sincerely,

Leafs Nation

Ps. And "no," you can't "have Gardiner and Lupul back!"

I agree with this other then the bullying part. Although I thought Burkie was really good in some areas I felt like he opened his mouth way too much. For instance, he always told the media what he was going to do for the club and what he wanted in deals or in signings. I know it's tough to compare the NHL and MLB but look at Anthopolous, but he never says what hes going to do until the deal or signing is finished. This may have killed signings or deals for the leafs. The Kaberle trade was a great example. He evetually got what he wanted to an extent, but the deal took forever to happen and although Kaberle was overvalued he may have gotten more.

He was good in some areas, but i think he had his faults as well.

As long as Burke stays the hell away from the draft, all is good. No more Mark Mitera's or Logan MacMillan's.

meaning even the little tiny 0.1% chance the leafs had at Getzlaf just died....thats so funny that the leafs were cool with him exploring other options, meanwhile he goes to the team with the one player the leafs have been dying to have who's in his UFA year

No fair Steve, you get all the cool signings.

What are your thoughts on Hiller being on the block now that Fasth is signed?

trade him, free up money for Getzlaf and Perry. That is what I see in the works.

No, I'm asking for two names. But you can't provide them, that much is clear.

Yes, point out three complete outliers that will never happen again.

Look at his record in the first round vs other GMs, it's quite clear he doesn't know what he's doing, the only time he drafted stars was the Sedins.

I think Hiller gets dealt. It would great room for Getz and Perry. The Ducks are setting themselves up pretty good here. Let's hope that Fasth can keep playing at this level.

How much are Perry and Getzlaf really going to ask for? Can't see it being all that much more.

I think the biggest concern would be who replaces Koivu and Selanne if they both decide to walk.

6.5-7 over 7-8 years is what I'm thinking.

Why would they ever want to leave? They play in Disneyland and they are winning.

The way he is playing I don't see why not. Really 43 is a young age when it comes to retirement in the really world. What's he going to do, go back home and play beer league hockey? If you can continue to provide something you might as well keep playing and as of right now he's their top point getter.

Do you really think Fasth or however you spell it with his HUGE new contract means that Anaheim has to trade Hiller? It is not like Hiller is signed to a contract well into his 40's and Fasth just signed for 4 mill a year. Now it would suck to be Anaheim if they had that problem. Thank God their GM isn't that stupid hey? Know anybodies GM that is??

They don't have to by any means, but they can if come the TDD they find that Fasth is everything they wanted.

Raycroft, Mason, Gerber.

Not enough time to know, the above three names say it all.

Don't do it.

I just don't know how long they spend that kind of money on goalies. Could always just sign a cheap backup going forward. Bulin sure looks decent enough this year.

Really? What have the twins ever won in the NHL. Worst move the Vancouver ever made was drafting both of them. Set that franchise back at least 10 years!
- powerenforcer

If drafting two of the most dominant players in franchise history is a set back, I sure hope Burke's pick of Rielly last year for the Leafs was equally as bad!
