Hemsky and a 2nd in 2020 for Malkin?
May need to add a 6th in 2034 to get it done.

Right winger. Ummm, Nail Yakupov is a right winger, as is Ales Hemsky and Jordan Eberle. How many smaller, speedster/sniper right wingers can you fit into a team's Top 6?

I'm starting to think the Oilers would benefit in moving Yakupov before the season begins. Why? Because, as I said, the one thing the team has plenty of is speedster/snipers on the right side. Yakupov could immediately bring you a star center with size or a top pairing defenseman.

I'll throw a name out there, even though this has been beaten to death: PK Subban. Subban has yet to re-sign with Montreal (although it hasn't been possible during the lockout), and Galchenyuk + Yakupov = Fun. This being said, I'm not sure the Oilers need defensemen. Think long-term. When Oscar Klefbom is playing next season, the Oilers will have the two Schultz's, Petry, Smid and Klefbom...a very solid Top 5. Eventually, all five will be pricey. You can only spend so much on D men.

The biggest hole on the Oilers roster is at center. More specifically, the team needs an absolutely beast of a 2nd line center. Someone who can score, hit, lead, and be scary. Which brings me to a name I've also mentioned in the past: Ryan Getzlaf. If you could get Getz signed to a seven-year contract extension at $6mil per, Yakupov + Gagner is a great deal for both teams. It might sound to some like an overpayment considering the stats Getzlaf had last season, but seriously... There's very few, if any, other centers currently in the NHL like Ryan Getzlaf. The concept of having him on the Oilers makes me tinkle. A Top 6 this season of Hall, Hartikainen, Getzlaf, Nugent-Hopkins, Hemsky and Eberle? Lights out.

Anh needs cap space to resign Perry and Getzlaf. They have big players and we have picks and prospects. Who's there that they would be willing to move for the cap room?
- yaktalksback

Anaheim has plenty of cap space to resign Perry or Getzlaf, they have close to 30 million next year.

Well, in the Oilers' defense, it will be hard to beat Toronto's offer of Komisarek (assuming the Blues kick in a first rounder or 2 to even it out).

I like the Mark McNeil proposal the best..Hemsky is pretty much a 83% version of Hossa...

McNeil would be our future Horcoff replacement who could switch with Gagner from time to time on the 1nd line when we'rr playin big physical teams..
Gagner is becoming everything we hoped, I like his grit and like his dad he's improving every season, I dont see him ever being less than a 55 point, player again.

From a team that has no one as good as Hemsky on it. Nice one.

For one this list completely underrates our players. You are not taking into account teams needs for a trade. For example the Pens with 2 injured dmen might part with a second round for whitney. They tried to get 37 year old gonchar, same thing.

Nino from NYI is like trading for Paajarvi but you want to give someone better to get him. He might be good and he has size but we don't need a prospect for our top 6, we have those and Paajarvi is better. I don't think you have seen Nino play.

Top 10:
1 Chris Stewart (I have been saying this since last year)
2 Someone from Buffalo, they have to sign their team and they have solid forwards and dmen to part with
3 Loungo - it has to be said. 5.5 for a top 5 goalie is cheap, can't convince me other wise. I would pay 1.5 million more to have lou in net over duby any day.
4. Del Zotto - NYR is shopping him, I say we take them up on their offer
5. Hanzel - Pho wants to shed salary, we can help and this six five center is signed at 3.5 for years Despite belief they are going to have huge holes after this year and we can help patch them for a cheap price with prospects in return plus a top 6 player to keep them near the floor.
6 Dubinsky - Huge, wins faceoffs and a cheap third line center. Plus he has speed and can score. Columbus wants him gone, he doesn't want to be there, and putting him with Paajarvi and Hartkinen would not only provide points it would also give us a line of two way grit that can shut down the top lines of other teams
7 Jack Johnson - Again a player on the outs that might be able to be acquired for depth players much or one of our dmen and a prospect. Columbus has shown their need to collect picks and young players and we can help with that.
8 Weiss if we can resign him before the trade - he is doing nothing in Florida and they need the money. Traditionally however he has been amazing with points and hits. Great top 6
9 I still say Mark Striet if we can sign him even though he is injured. Potter can play till he is back.
10 Dion Phaneuf - Toronto fans will hate this but you have too many d, Phaneuf is not your best now and long term he will be surpassed. He is however your highest priced. You could use the offensive depth if you are going to make the playoffs.

Also remember this year the second round looks better than the players taken after the top 10 picks last year. Oilers could score big with 2 picks in the second and neither should be a goalie as their is no standout other than the highest ranked one out of Quebec. With that said, last year the Oilers passed on several players that I think will be great NHL's and picked a player that won't make it to OKC. So we can say our scouting is good but we have had VERY few good picks outside the top 10 in the last 20 years. We traditionally are horrible at drafting and if Tamb had his way we would had Murphy right now.

- bsteinley

I have not heard anywhere that NYR are shopping Del Zotto, if so it would start with a first rounder to get him.

I am all for the Leafs trading Dion! He is grossly overpaid right now and gets way to much playing time, going to get worn down. If he takes a drastic pay cut I would re-sign him, he is worth no more than $5 million per year I think. Not sure his worth to any other team but I assume it would include a first rounder.

That's a lot for Stewart and next to nothing for all the rest. I'm confused as to where you were trying to go with this post...

Just to give you some info. Rangers are not shopping MDZ. Would leave a giant hole in the D unit with noone quite ready to step in at this time. To get MDZ you'd have to part with Justin Shultz. Don't think you would do that.

Dubinsky can win faceoffs but is not a cheap 3rd liner. His cap and salary are 4M+ and he has a tough time finishing. Has a lot of grit and is a good role player and does a lot of good things on the ice but I'd look elsewhere for that amount of money

First off I hope your dad gets well soon and best wishes to you and your family. You are a true professional being able to throw out blogs for our enjoyment under those circumstances.Very much appreciated.

Secondly I agree about making those deals and getting more picks.Picks arent always developed but like you said used in other trades. Sort of what the yankees do in baseball. If we stay the course and allow the development to occur and let these kids grow physically we will win many cups.

Klefbom will be a top pairing kid very soon. He is all round solid D-man.

1. Jay Bouwmeester, D, Calgary - I'd be all for it I just don't think that big of a deal happens in the division.

2. Ryan O'Reilly, C, Colorado - Don't want. The guy is a younger Shawn Horcoff. Between the assets you will have to give up for him and the contract, someone is going to lose big.

3. Jeff Schultz, D, Washington - I probably pass unless it's a deal that includes say a 4th and Whitney/Potter go the other way. Schultz just isn't all that good.

4. Marcel Goc, C, Florida - Interesting pick Clouts. A not bad one. Don't like his contract, but it isn't that bad. If Florida really is going to a fire sale this is a good depth center pick up. (frank) Clouts I'm impressed, nice off the grid idea. Might be the most impressed I've ever been with you.

5. Jack Johnson, D, Columbus - He's a good pickup that's for sure. But you put a 25 minute a night d-man on the market and I don't know Hemsky and a 2nd does it. Depends how big the hard on is in CBJ for Hemmer.

6. Mark McNeill, C, Chicago - I like McNeil, but probably a trade we don't get involved in. One of those step backwards moves unless it turns out to be a Jones/Belanger and a good prospect going back.

7. Nino Niederreitter, F, New York Islanders -Another step backwards, but I'd dangle PRV instead.

8. Zemgus Girgensons, C, Buffalo - Doubt he goes anywhere.

9. Chris Kreider, LW, New York -I can't see a scenario where he is dealt. They wouldn't move him in the Nash deal, so outside the big 4 or 5 or whatever number we are at he isn't being moved.

10. Chris Stewart, F, St. Louis - Stewart is always in my sights. Depends if he is getting along with Hitch or not. If he is getting along he won't be dealt, just too valuable of a player.
