Bernie is a fun guy. I've met him on a couple of occasions...and he's an absolute ladies man.
- Jsaquella

True story... I went to sab/phi alumni game about 20 yrs ago at the aud and after game they had tables set up with 2 players at each table signing autograph. My brother (sabres fan) walks up to table, leans in Bernies face and says "hi I'm Bernie parent and I stole the cup from buffalo" Bernie sits up looks him dead in the eye with a big smile and says " why yes, yes I did" we all started rolling it was sooo funny. Even Perrault was laughing. Bernie is one class act. One of my favoRite memories

The worst part is, McGuire could be a fantastic analyst. The trouble is, he gets to praising individual players to the point of distraction. There was one sequence that he reviewed and broke the play down perfectly and explained exactly what was happening on the ice in language anyone could understand.

Then he ignored a goal to discuss how great Crosby was on a play that happens dozens of times in a game.

- Jsaquella

He is creepy to me. His slob fest over Crosby (and he always did it over Richards too) just creeps me out.

I noticed that too. Never been a huge Doc fan. Pierre is beginning to drive me nuts too.
- Briere

I hate listening to Emerick. First, he literally never shuts the (frank) up, and second, I'm convinced he talks just to hear himself talk. It's amazing to me how many times what he was saying had absolutely nothing to do with what was happening on the ice.

i 100% understand why people hate pierre but he's very entertaining to me.

on the other hand, i despise olcyzk.

i realize there's probably no logical reason to feel this way.

well said sir

emrick gets on my nerves at times, but i did think he was great last night. for some reason i think he's better with just pierre than he is with pierre and olczyk.

- Crimsoninja

I agree with you. Just like JJ is better with Clement than with Jonesy.

They need to cut down on the careless penalties though.
- NickTheKid87

Amen! Seemed to me that Bryz was more than a little frustrated by that little issue.

I agree to a point. He has been making the same wrong plays for his whole NHL career. Might not hurt for him to see the game from the bench to gain perspective.

Not saying the other options are better. Just saying Schenn needs to cut out a lot of those errors.

I actually really like Schenn. He has good aspects to his game. He just needs to clean up the decision making to become an above average defenseman.

- mickel25

Schenn is already an above average defenseman. He hasn't made that many errors since he's been here. He hasn't been perfect by any means, and is still young. Sitting him is the wrong move in my opinion.

He's got a lot of potential, which means if he was brought in as back up he'd be the greatest goalie in Flyers history. If he was brought in as starter, fans would hate him in two weeks

This could have been culled from 2003-04 regarding Nitty.

Let's compare the Flyers 1st 9 games to their last 9 games for fun and to pump some life into this thread.

1st 9: 3-6

Claude Giroux: 6 points (3 G, 3A)
Jake Voracek: 4 points (1 G, 3 A)
Brayden Schenn: (8 games) 4 points (1 G, 3 A)
Danny Briere: (5 games) 3 points (1 G, 2 A)
Wayne Simmonds: (8 games) 5 points (2 G, 3 A)
Matt Read: 7 points (3 G, 4 A)
Ilya Bryzgalov: (8 games) 3-5, 2.38 GAA, .920 SV%

Last 9: 5-3-1

Claude Giroux: 9 points (2 G, 7 A)
Jake Voracek: 14 points (5 G, 9 A)
Brayden Schenn: 10 points (3 G, 7 A)
Danny Briere: 6 points (4 G, 2 A)
Wayne Simmonds: (7 games) 7 points (4 G, 3 A)
Matt Read: 6 points (4 G, 2 A)
Ilya Bryzgalov: (8 games) 5-2-1, 2.63 GAA, .888 SV%, 1 SO

Interesting.

Agreed. He's verbose, throws in "interesting" "facts" at the wrong time, and has too many crutch phrases. A drinking game with the phrase "rattled one around" would have everyone passed out by the end of the first period.

I just have to share that I just ran into Bernie Parent and his son at whole foods in center city. he is seriously the nicest athlete ever. so personable. he told me I must eat well cause I look good...haha Bernie being Bernie. My absolute childhood hero so while I do not hero worship when it comes to celebrities, it was a thrill to meet him again.

I even saw people complaining about the refs (typical Philly fans) but all the penalties the Flyers took late were definitely penalties. They've been a lot better at cutting down on them but I'm sure the emotion of last night played a part in regards to their focus level.

Is there any announcer that most people can agree on? I can't think of any, or at least not at the national level.

Probably not. It's a case of to each his own. Many don't like Emerick. I think he's fantastic and one of the best.

I completely agree with you. At least McGuire's gush is right there in your face while Olcyzk's bias taints the broadcast. At least he seems to have stopped with his need to tell everyone he coached the Penguins.

They were. But they were also completely avoidable and nearly cost them the game. I understand Bryz' frustration (if that's what I saw).

I like Emerick as well. He's pretty much split. I know most people hate Joe Buck for football/baseball. Even the local guys around here are weak.

it's totally obnoxious yet entirely endearing to me.

i guess for me the difference is i think pierre realizes he's a total dork and runs with it, while edzo says everything like it's the most important and last thing a hockey analyst has/will ever say.

Yeah they were careless for sure. You're playing with more than fire by putting a team with the 2 best players in the world on consecutive 5-on-3s and then some. Kudos to the PK for only allowing 1 goal.

Edit: Although, if Bryz is on his A game, I think he stops that Neal PP goal. He didn't square up well to Neal.

Gary Thorne's work on ESPN was just tremendous back when they were an actual sports network and broadcast hockey games .
