just trying to understand your point.
obviously Crosby and Malkin have had more success vs the Flyers than Giroux vs the Pens ... but you can't ignore the fact that Giroux has only in the last couple of years become a top player, whereas your 2 guys have been terrorizing the whole league for a decade now. - FlyerGuy
yeah, but Crosby and Giroux are the same age. It will never even out. |

Loved Barnaby - Orpik44
Barnaby was definitely one of those players, like Domi, that were so so SO easy to hate when they're on the other team, but quickly become fan favorites when playing for one's own team. |

And Crosby is an amazingly talented player who played on a team that, as of his rookie season, did not have a top center after the first, what, 14 games? So he drew top line minutes from the get go. He also had this guy Lemieux (you may have heard of him) who was probably able to give his some nice pointers to help him out.
I'm really not sure what you're arguing. That Crosby has put up more points than Giroux? That Malkin has? I don't see how anyone can argue that. Are you just trying to draw someone's ire?
Also, wipe off the cover after I'm done what? Playing Skyrim? Why would I have to wipe that off? - jmatchett
Giroux had his best year thanks to a guy called Jagr (you may have heard of him)
Giroux is just not in the same conversation as Crosby and Malkin...maybe in 2-3 years? |

I'm not downplaying Giroux. He's a good guy but I'd say he's a top 10 player in this league. |

He has been terrific in his post playing career. Podcast is great, twitter is great, and his contributions to WNY youth hockey have been great. |

All players are terrible and should be traded for pogs. |

I agree. I actually enjoy listening to Barnaby way more than I do Jeremy Roenick ... who I thought would be a natural for all that stuff. |

Roenick's only use is getting underneath Milbury's skin. Which isn't terribly hard. |

Actually, your blogger was the one who brought him up.
So wait...you're saying the top 10 players in the league don't deserve to be mentioned in the same conversation? Especially one who finished 3rd in league scoring last year, who plays in all game situations, and has just inherited the captaincy of his team? That's a pretty narrow conversation. - jmatchett
Giving the C to Giroux is a business thing IMO. Don't read too much into that.
Top 10 is pretty good huh? SOme of the players deserve to be mentioned in the same conversation: one is Stamkos, the other WAS Ovechkin...and than there are the other guys (very good ones). Just an opinion. |

Cause Laviolette came out with a stupid "best player in the world" comment basically throwing Giroux into the category with Crosby, Malkin and Stamkos.

I don't put Giroux in the elite group.....yet. The key word is yet. The writing on the wall suggests that he will get there. The elite players (Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos) sustain the level of play year in year out. Giroux hasn't had the games played to prove that yet. He is top 10, with the possibility to be top 5 sooner then later. I just wont call a player elite because of 1 season. Just think, Jonathon Cheechoo scored 50 goals one year.....he is now out of the NHL. |

Really? We should give him a call. Bet he would be great on a line with malkin and Neal. |

Yes that's it 20 more games and he will be close narrowing that gap of .8 to 1.6 and 1.35 ppg. 1975!! - dbell646
Giroux did compile 21 points in 12 playoff games against the Pens. Just sayin... |

I'd put Giroux in the Brad Richards cathegory right now.
We can't forget about Kovalchuk, Datsyuk/Thornton( both not so much anymore), the Sedins, Parise (whom I'd rather have on our team than Giroux)...the list goes on...Tavares...

Difference between those guys and Giroux is the age. All the guys you talk about are in their 30s, Giroux is only 25 |

I wouldn't say that was stupid. Lavy probably said it as a motivational ploy just to show Giroux that he appreciated his level of play ... and, truth be told, for a large part of the year Giroux really was an elite player.
Is he truly in the elite category? No, not yet. He doesn't yet have the consistency of those other guys. The next year or two will go a long ways toward determining whether he can get there ... and stay there. |

And I don't feel like doing the research. But I'm guessing in the 3 series sid has had against the flyers he's put up some nice numbers too. And won 2 of the 3 series. Both on the way to the finals. Once on the way to a cup. So ya know. Not bad |

Only 1 of the players isn't Canadian?
Only 1 can grow a proper playoff beard?
Only 1 has never scored a playoff hat trick (I think)? - jmatchett
Crosby (Washington) and Malkin (Carolina) each have playoff hat tricks. I think what you wanted to say was "Only 1 has never scored a playoff hat trick during a Stanley Cup run" |

Merely pointing out that Giroux's .8 becomes 1.75 in the playoffs. |
