No wonder you hate my puns. They look AWESOME by comparison to this "effort."

Dude, I'm just in training. This was my foray and to be completely honest it was an accident.

I love the trade talk and what would be needed to improve flyers but I have the answer. Why don't we trade for detroit's scouting staff. How can they consistently get all these pukes year after year so late in the draft? And datsyuk is a beast
- SMS4016

The Flyers have done this already, except, back in 2006, the cry was "Why don't we hire Buffalo's scouting staff??"

And the Flyers did. They hired Don Luce as Director of Player Development....away from the Sabres.

Hell I was one of those that wanted them to sign Drury instead of Briere.

Ruined my hockeybuzz reputation.

Second longest tenured coach in North American pro sports, behind Gregg Popovich

In the time that Ruff coached the Sabres, the Flyers have had 7 head coaches.

No. That would be foolish. He got off to a slow start but that's meaningless.

Understandable. Ruff enjoyed the same level of success Popovich has.

And we have a good group of young forwards because of that. Now we need someone to advise on defenseman.

Really? Coots is god?? Sells ??? ##1 center??? Every trade rumor out there starts with coots going the other way??? Soooo homer traded Ritchie that fast but if homR called all 29 other teams and put coots with picks or whatever to overpay a little your saying not 1 gm would call back and say deal? Why ? Because bills blog said gm has to call around and try to squeeze more. Didn't happen with Ritchie did it. Nope. His a$$ was gone just that fast! Use your head not bills. Think trade deadline day. Do you think every trade that goes done is mulled over for months?
- SMS4016

1) The Richards deal didn't happen "just like that". There were apparently several conversations between the Flyers and LA, and the component of adding Simmonds (instead of a lesser piece) in addition to Brayden Schenn apparently came about when the Flyers lowered a demand for a 1st round pick to a 2nd.

2) Even with the trade deadline, most GMs have touched base months earlier during the season about "If you make so-and-so available, we're interested." That happened with the Nick Grossmann deal last year, although Dallas ended up making him available to the Flyers a little bit earlier in exchange for additional draft pick compensation. But the Flyers expressed interest as early as December and were told by Nieuwendyk that he wasn't available, but would circle back if/when he was.

Ramsey, Barber, Hitchcock, Stevens, Laviolette. Who was the 6th? I was 6 in '97.
