The "eat some of their salary" provision makes moving them a little easier. But I don't think the return is anything you can convert into RoR. - The Law
If the Leafs need to eat a million here or there, they can afford it, especially when they buyout Komisarek next year. The Avalanche could use Liles. Familiar face, veteran and helps them where they need it most; on defense. |

Why would we want 2-5 million in cap space tied up in players not on or roster for the next 4 years |

What about Kostka? Fraser?
I assume Fraser is waiver exempt, but he's earned his keep. Kostka I'm not sure about. - Leeman4Gilmour
The only guy that should be sent down is holzer. Kostka and Fraser have been playing pretty decent. |

I will ask again why would they pay liles 4 million if they will not pay O'Reilly 4.5 million |

I can see moving him because he is the only option, but I disagree he is the problem, he skates well for his size, uses his size and is only a minus 2 this year despite his first two games being disastrous and having 2 goals against last night as a result of unlucky bounces of skates - jribout
Check alot of the goals that have been scored on the leafs despite if the leafs win or not, you will see his number and name always. Yesterday was a prime example of 3 of the goals.. I know phaneuf just sucks yes we ALL agree he sucks defensively but Carlyle should get a clue and realize the only pairing that can bail out phaneuf, is Gunner. And all of you know that because of last year and how good they played together. And benching liles makes no sense..
Edit: and on another note only guys that are new and that have been playing really good is kostka and fraser. |

It's too bad you'd lose Kostka to waivers because he seems like the most natural man to replace with Gardiner.
Holzer had a rough game yesterday, so I assume that means Gardiner gets his shot. With only 3 more games of waiver eligibility, Gardiner is basically here to stay (credit to LeafMan for the reference).

Both are past waiver exemption. Fraser had almost 100 NHL games before he came to the Leafs. - burn
Why did Kostka lose his exemption? Does age factor in? |

Because Liles fills a need they have on defense and because Liles is more proven than O'Reilly. The problem the Avalanche have with giving O'Reilly that contract is because it's only his second contract, they are expecting to keep him for the same money they have Duchene signed for which is 3.5 million. You also forget that the Leafs can hold 1 million dollars of Liles salary meaning the Avalanche would pay him 2.875 (not 4 million like you say) and the cap hit could stay the same which they need to reach the cap floor anyway. |

I know he doesn't have an NHL contract anyway, but is Ranger still playing well and logging big minutes with the Marlies? |

So now in effect we are paying an extra 1million a year for the next 4 years to get O'reilly and paying him 5 million more....
So 6 million a year for O'reilly.... yeah no thanks

I like Liles, but why is he sitting right now? Why would Colorado not ask for any of our other defensemen -Phaneuf who are making half the money..... and actually playing |
