Better hope Nash isnt hurt long term. I thought the offense was bad before but this is hard to watch.

Habs have been pretty good defensively the past 4 games. Only 2 goals allowed.

Yes i agree. I didnt intend to take anything away from the Habs. More so to point out how inept the rangers are without nash, even with him they arent much better. You guys played a better game tonight deff deserved the win.

I said it when he was drafted, Galchenyuk was going to be a name I already heard Sam Rosen praising in my head and so it was just so fitting he scores the game winner, no one on the team wants to carry their teammates even for 1 game, Richard and Gabby were awful in a big time spot, everyone wants to make that extra pass instead of play and if Nasher is out for any length of time this season is done.

Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi said. “And we just couldn’t get that second goal.”

Contenders don't ever have to say that.

Habs were on vapors last night, they had played back-to-back and 3 in 4 days, and the Rangers played like they just needed to throw their sticks on the ice and win.

With the exception of Hagelin, the team lacks speed and spirit, and speaking of "dumbass" plays, what in God's name was Staal thinking when Richards gave him a perfect drop pass in the slot. he acted like he has never had the puck in that position, he panicked and it cost the game. BTW, it was the only positive play Richards made all night.

After digesting what happened during the game last night I'm not as mad as I was when the game was over.
As far as Montreal dictating the pace of the game... It is what it is. They didn't skate all over the Rangers, they just kept icing the puck. The only way to combat that would have been for Torts to put Biron in net and let him play the puck and push the tempo that way. in doing this Montreal prevented any consistent form of attack on them and their Goaltender played really well. He didn't allow rebound for the most part. he even got the first save on the strallman goal.

On the "non" icing call... those are the breaks. Better a goal scored then have Hank go down with a sliced tendon on a non whistle. It sucks but you can't let a guy rip a shot from the high slot regardless. What was Mac doing on this goal? I haven't seen a clear replay what happened in front of hank.

I thought about it and it was just overall sloppy. I wouldn't even analyize any particular play as to wy or how we lost cause the entire game was just sloppy.

And as others said, Hags makes himself noticible everytime he's on the ice at this point, even when he's not putting up points. He's goign to turn into a favorite ala Callahan at some point just because of how he works his tail off and hustles every shift, granted he has a totally different playing style. Once Hags becomes an even better PKer it will really add to his game. After Nash he's been our mot noticible forward all season. Thats the one positive I can gain from last night..

I also thought that Richards skated well. He didn't pass or shoot well but i some jump in his legs that has not been there recently. Small gain but i think if he can keep skating like that then his other skills will follow suit.

Both Cally and Hags were good last night. We just need more than that on a consisted basis.

I actually agree on Richards. He was terrible with the puck, but he was skating really well. I thought he was flying on a couple of occassions. He is all franked up right now, but hopefully things turn soon for him, because they need to for the Rangers to be successful.

Skating is usually the cure for poor play. If he keeps skating well then his skills will catch up and he'll round into mid season form. It's still frustrating right now tho.

I agree with that as well. Even when Hagelin was lighting up the score sheet earlier this season, he was still very noticeable on the ice because he skates his ass off. Skate and hustle and hopefully the rest will come.

Besides Nash, the other so-called top forwards on the team Richards and Gaborik, seem content with trying to blend in instead of lead.

When youngsters like Stepan and Hagelin thoroughly outplay you, lately on a nightly basis, that is a huge cause for concern. If they looked half competent last night, the Rangers escape with at least a point.

They need to be better than this, plain and simple.

I can't argue with a single thing you've said. I do, however, agree with the point made about Richards having better legs last night, which is a silver lining to a real bad performance in my view. I thought Gaborik was actually o.k.. Not great, but O.K. His hustle actually played a big part in the first goal. His problem is, and will probably always be, is that he is a real streaky player -- i.e., periods of brilliance followed by periods of average play.

This is on Torts to get them 'playing' Hockey. I heard Maloney on the pregame say "we didn't go out to work hockey, we went out to play hockey"
Richards, and Gaborik to a a certain extent, seem to be working hockey and not just playing the game. I think this team, as a whole, are just too tight as expectation were set real high. Just go out and have more fun while you play. The skill is there.

I think playing that rigid of a style has the tendancy to wear on players after awhile. I love Torts, but there is a reason why coaches like him come with an expiration date, because eventually the players either start tuning him out or stop having fun with the game, which isn't a good thing. I am not saying that we are saying that right now, but I will say that this team doesn't seem to be having much with the game right now. Too many guys are gripping their sticks too tight, perhaps because they are too worried about the coach.

There have been too many times this season where the team has seemed lifeless, and they aren't getting too much of a shot in the arm from the young guys either.

And, there has been some talk about buying out Richards and pursuing Getzlaf. You can say whatever you want about Bruce Boudreu, and whether you can win with his style in the playoffs, but that is player friendly style. I can imagine that the Ducks are having a great deal of fun right now.

Maybe Torts should stop treating injuries during the regular season as if they the equivalent of the nuclear codes.
