I like Iginla, but Bergevin wants to build through the draft. He won't trade prospects/picks for aging stars.

O'Reilly, being young, makes much more sense.

Well what has all of a sudden made him a good coach?
- stormey

1. Time in Penguins organization.
2. Time being surrounded by people who know how to develop young players.
3. Surrounding himself with competent people for his second tour in Montreal.
4. Age and patience. He wasn't necessarily a BAD coach the first time around, he lacked patience and it wore thin on the players. As he's gained experience, his shelf life has seemingly gotten longer, who knows how long it'll be this time around. For now, it's working.

The 2 blown leads weren't a result of trying to sit back and hold the lead, it was mostly due to discipline and resulting momentum changes. Last year it was painfully obvious that every single time they had a lead in the third, they were going to try to trap and protect it. And mostly every single time, it was even more painfully obvious they were going to blow that lead as a result. That's not the case this year.

Buffalo was White making that stupid play and the momentum change resulting from it, Tampa was that stupid penalty at the end of the game by Pleky.

- Saundies

They had the lead they stopped forechecking and they sat back hoping to stop the flurry from the other team.

Considering we've been emarassed 3 times this year and 2 of those games were against the leafs, im excited to play them again. We're far from a rivalry..
- God_then_kovy

Why? are you hoping they win so you can have your revenge on the leaf fans?

meh just another game on the schedule.

Pittsburgh's team defense was amazing when MT took them to the cup finals, and even better with Bylsma the year after.

I didn't see it that way. My point is that, in general, that's not how it works anymore. Better evidence than the blown leads would be the game last night going into a scoreless third, or even the Florida game. Did they sit back and stop forechecking to play for OT and a point? No. Would they have last year under JM? Yes.

Every team sits back, it's just a matter of how long they do it, and if it works or not.

The habs are not good at sitting back.

No revenge on anybody...simply to prove that we're not easily intimidated by physical teams. Playing in Boston will be a solid physical test too.

I keep hearing this and I just don't get it.

Plekanec is just about the most prototypical second line center you could ask for, no? Some successful PP time, kills penalties, good offensively and defensively, and at a decent pay rate.
O'Reilly has done this for one-two seasons and wants a Plekanec-type pay for a Plekanec type player. (ok, maybe a bit more physical but...)
Eller is the projected player to take over for Plekanec down the road. He's not there yet, but even though some of you will groan at my suggestion here, admit that he seems to be getting much better every game under Therrien.

SO why would we trade Eller (projected 2nd line center eventually, above average 3rd/4th now) for O'Reilly (projected 2nd line center now), hope it works out and pay him the same as Plekanec who we already know works out?? To trade Plekanec for a draft pick? (probably the same one we'll have to cough up to get O'Reilly?)

Doesn't make much sense to me. What we need is a depth centerman who can win faceoffs by the boat-load right now and that doesn't make much money. Other than that, I think all we really need is one more physical stay-at-home D. Not O'reilly.
