Asp doesn't give a (frank) about systems

Point is, if the players suck ass, it doesn't really matter what system you play...

The Habs aren't the best team in the league. They're not even the best in their conference. But their committee is proving to be stronger than most of their competition's. They have a clear identity as a good team; a team that's remarkably tough to play against.

The leafs disagree.

For sure, but his foot race against Patrick Dywer made me a little.

for the first time in decades they have a few players that might generate some excitement and I just know they're gonna douche it up so much I end up just loathing the (frank) out of them.

2 blown leads say otherwise

Every team will abandon the system that got them there and sit back to try and hold a lead at some point during a game. The problem under JM was that the players were sitting back even when they were losing

- Oilhab

JM is a one-system coach. He was brought in with this mentally which was a good idea considering the Habs were a veteran team. I mean really, selling a system where you weren't going all-out every game was obvious to guys like Gionta-Gomez-Markov-Gill-Moen-Hamrlik-Spacek.

The problem is that when you replace those guys with Subban, Pacioretty, Cole, Desharnais, rookies like Emelin and Diaz. The strength of the team (even before Gallagher, Galchenyuk, Prust, White, Bouillon) becomes speed, not intelligence.

So when you can't adapt your so called system to get the most out of the players that are part of your lineup, then it's only a matter of time before you start to lose the room, and that's basically what happened.

Add to that the fact that Gauthier was a douche and Muller, which was reportedly the glue that kept that dressing room together, was let go without much fight, and you get last years awesome effort.

Again, an awesome-incedible-BESTEVER system does not exist. Using one that suits the strengths of your team and finding a way to sell it to your players is really all anyone can do as a coach.

I'd say the favorable home schedule, Bourque no longer sucking, Plekanec playing like a couple of years ago and the return of a healthy Markov has as much to do with the hot start, as any system does.

MTL should be a non-mover at the deadline.
They are in transition right now, and they are doing it fantastically, let them be, and adjust your expectations accordingly.
