Once he got into game shape, he played well down here. I think he could challenge for a spot in the defensive logjam.

If he still has some game, it's not a bad thing to have him in the organization.

Shero has said before that he liked to have 9-10 NHL ready defensmen at his disposal. With Eaton and Reese in WBS, he would have 10.

I remember Phillip Boucher in the Cup season as the 7th guy. He didn't dress much, but was a good room guy, and comfortable with his role. That could be Eaton.

That's why I have said for a while, injuries can't play a part in the decision making process. Punish the act itself, not the result. Only way to have consistency.

You seem to know what your talking about when it comes to hockey so I got a
question.

The Pens are letting Eaton skate with the Pens in practice so he gets
the feel of things I assume.

The question is what do you suppose the purpose is?

If I was to guess its because there gonna trade one of the Dmen now an are
preping him for a possible spot?

I tend to think that whatever trade deadline move Shero is contemplating will require the movement of a defensive player or two. It seems he is developing his contingency plan if a deal goes down for lets say a forward.

I think its a guy who has had past success under Shero in both Nashville and Pittsburgh that is an asset to the organization. That doesn't mean that he will suit up for the big club, but like what Rival said, Shero likes 9-10 NHL defensemen in the system. Eaton would fit that billing.

I also believe that Eaton joked he would play for the Penguins for free if allowed so from a cap standpoint, it would be a league minimum thing.

I saw him play his first game for WB/S in Rochester and he was fine. Nothing too noticeable except for one mistake. He was delayed getting up ice to close the gap on an Amerks forward, because he was late that player had tons of time and space flying through the neutral zone. Eaton got dusted and the play resulted in a goal.

I've come to the conclusion that if a trade does happen, it's going to be for somebody that no one expected. A guy in his 20s who is a 20 goal scorer with the ability to be a 30+ goal scorer on the wing of a Sid or Geno. Going completely off the board, i could see a guy like Partic Hornqvist from Nashville or David Jones from Colorado being targets.

Yeah, if he can show in a few practice days, that he can play at NHL speed (even practice speed), it's not a bad move to sign him to a $525k deal and send him back to WBS in case he's needed down the road.
