I still don't understand why it's a lock that all of a sudden when they get to Brooklyn, they will start spending money. The place holds less than 15,000 and if the team still stinks why would attendance be any different?

The one sustainable thing the isles have is the tv contract which covers half the teams payroll off the bat.

I just think Wang doesn't have the money we all think he does. His other businesses are in trouble, he is being sued for over a billion currently by ex CA employees, he owes the NHL $75 mill by the end of next year. The guy is in trouble financially as far as rich people go.

True, however the Barclay's Center has 60 more luxury boxes than the Nassau Coliseum, so that should make up for some of the loss revenue.

I don't see why they wouldn't. At that stage the club will actually be making money off of fans in attendance for things other than simple admission sales.

Unfortunatley all we have is time to find out....

I don't see why they would? Wang is what he is. Now if he sells the team that would be a whole different story.

Well, I suppose this all depends on what you feel Wang's motivation for being cheap is at the moment. If you believe he's being cheap as a means to minimize his losses for the time being, then you'd have to assume when the financial fog clears in 2015, he'll be more motivated to pick up where he left off in 2006. He will be getting large shares of concessions at that stage (where most teams make their money) and that will be strengthened through strong attendance. Marketing for the team will be at it's highest since the 1980's given the locale so success would be paramount.

If you feel he's bought a team for $187million and incurred a decades worth of heavy losses, financed repairs to a stadium he didn't own, while fighting for a new stadium just to continue to bottom dollar it even once the clouds part, then it may be a good time to give up all together.

I still contend that he won't sell and is waiting for 2015.

See TV contract years 2015-2030. 25 year Stadium lease etc.
He's got plenty of reason to be around. None of us may like it (I sure don't), but I'm realist enough to recognize that selling a company that's about to pull out of it's darkest era isn't a very sound business move.

Prove me wrong? When? Me speculating about Visnovsky not playing here which after i posted it was written about by someone who worjked for the club for more that 15 years and 2 other writers. You think that makes you right? How so? Forget about the FACT it almost happened. You are a walking, breathing, wrong. You think Garth Snow is doing a good job. You are a moron. You could'nt prove a five year old wrong. You correct peoples spelling and your posts are some of the worst grammatically in this thread which says alot. You can't even capitilize yet you critique every God damn person on here constsntly. Give it a rest you (frank)ing loser. I believe there is one person on here that tolerates you, ONE! Does that make you feel better that you can't even make people like you on hockeybuzz? You are the biggest moron I've never met. You insulting anyone's intelligence(which is a daily hapopening on here)is the most IRONIC thing I've witnessed because you yourself are an idiot.

You should all check out the Islanders chat on Newsday today. While you won't like some of the answers provided by Arthur Staple, here are some highlights:

1. Since the Islanders aren't making money, they won't go out and bring new talent in.
2. Didn't say it but might think Nino is a bust. Staple thinks he is very immature. He thinks he could be trade bait for an up and coming defenseman in the summer.
3. If DP is bad tonight he could be sent down and one of the Bridgeport goalies will be brought up.
4. Same goes for Reasoner...waived if he is bad and Jon Persson will be brought up. Nino stays down...see #2...
5. Donovan not ready for the NHL..nor are any of the Bridgeport d-men.
6. The rumors about the Islanders being sold in the NY Post weren't accurate.
7. Possible fire sale if team is out of it at the trade deadline...

Nino's a bust, Donovan's not ready for the NHL...has Staple actually watched Bridgeport or is he just basing all of this off of a conversation with Cpt?

I think people expect too much out of Donovan, like he'd unrealistically be some kind of savior in the NHL, which he won't...but I don't think he'd be lost in a limited NHL role at all. He's the only d-man on an awful, awful d-core to remain in plus territory, and if anything, his offense has picked up a bit compared to very early on in the season. And beyond the numbers, imo he just looks better out there.

Of the bunch, only #2 really surprises me at all. Nino is only 20 years of age, the whole 'immature' thing strikes me a bit odd. I'd be surprised if the Isles deal him at all.

I'm still not sure how the financial fogs lift when they get to Brooklyn. Suozzi already got him a better deal at the coliseum where he now makes money from the concessions and parking and other events. I really think he is selling the team.

It only makes smart sense about Brooklyn if the team gets there with momentum. Right now, the team has been stuck in mud with almost zero improvement in 6 seasons. Also, 70% of the fan base is in Nassau and Suffolk. It's going to hurt attendance.

i dont disagree that a big percentage is from nassau/suffolk (although i doubt its 70%) but considering there are LOTS more ways of getting to barclays, LOTS more people that will now have hockey on their map, simply bc its more convenient to get to AND the fact that the team is built around prospects/young guys who will be entering their prime around the move IE the team will be contending, are ALL reasons to believe attendance wont be hurt.

It's just under 70%. Wang said it to Francesca last he was on. 70% of the season ticket base I should say more accurately
