what's your opinion?

I'm glad you got it all out...

I don't have much to add today.

I think Wang is an AssHat!!!

I think he is the main reason this team doesn't succeed.

It's a trickle down effect.

By him being a bad owner, it effect everybody around him.

As for Garth... it's too bad he doesn't just come out and call a spade a spade.

But if he says his hands are tied, that Wang won't give him any money to spend... he will get fired.

I think even if we could spend an extra 10 million over the cap... this team would be totally different.

But we will never know until Wang sells the team.

Hopefully he does, and the new owner spends some cash.

If Wang sells the team... they will clean house and start fresh.

Aww Shucks!!!

I like to joke & I like to stir the pot, and I do give Snow/Wang/DP the benefit of the doubt at first. But Wang may have saved the team, but its reached the point where someone now has to save it from him... He got us locked up for 2 decades in Brooklyn.. awesome.. now let someone else come in and take the next step.

DP.. love the potential.. love the attitude.. love he's American.. love the dedication.. as long as he is in net im going to root for him to succeed.. but I hope I dont see him in net ever again. His last game for us can not come soon enough.

Snow.. I think can be a good GM.. I really do

i so glad we put other teams back on track. Carolina rattled off like 4 straight wins after we gave them a win. Philly was one of worst team in east this year. one 7-0 win against isles and they go on and beat Pitt tonight.

Habs play like the Devils this year. Boring and wait for you to make a mistake. We need to score early like we didn saturday to have a chance. they score a few on us and we are trouble. the good news is Nabby is usually pretty awesome after a day off.

We need a win badly. Question - when is last time we got like 4-5 wins a a row? has that every happend under Cappy? i dont think it has.

wow that terrible. without a good backup. we arent going to do that this year either.
i think if Nabby plays 2 games than gets game off. Putting in guys like Poulin, we can probably pull together a win streak.

Maybe Snow should fire the GM...

Garth Snow insists he won't make any rash moves to spark Islanders
Published: February 20, 2013 5:02 PM
By ARTHUR STAPLE

Garth Snow isn't happy with the results his team has posted so far this season, but he isn't ready to do anything drastic.

This is the team the Islanders general manager assembled, so he's not interested yet in giving up on any of his struggling younger players or dumping veterans for draft picks either.

"As I've said many times, if there's an opportunity to upgrade our roster and make the team better, we'll do it, but not at the expense of our young guys or prospects," Snow told Newsday here on Wednesday, a day off for the Islanders before Thursday night's game with the Canadiens. "We're not going to mortgage our future to make a quick fix. That's not our plan."

The inconsistency his team has shown, not just this season but in recent seasons, has been nagging Snow as well as the team's fans. But Snow, with the blessing of owner Charles Wang, committed to a complete renovation of the franchise, building it around John Tavares without much room for big-budget risks.

That philosophy hasn't changed, even as the Islanders sit tied for 11th in the East, four points from eighth and two points from last, with 16 of the 48 games already gone by.

Monday's 7-0 shelling by the Flyers at home was the worst home shutout loss in team history. The Islanders, with Snow watching from high above in Scotiabank Place on Tuesday night, put forth a better effort but with the same result: a 3-1 loss to the Senators that left the Islanders 2-7-0 in their last nine games.

"Obviously, Monday was not a good performance," Snow said. "I thought we were better [Tuesday] night. The challenge for this group is to find ways to win those games, facing a good goaltender. There's challenges every night."

One of the big challenges has been the play of Rick DiPietro, who dropped to 0-3-0 this season with Tuesday's loss. Jack Capuano refused to comment on DiPietro's play for a second time. He also did not say anything about his backup goaltender after a 6-4 loss to the Hurricanes nine days ago, when DiPietro wandered out of his net and ended up giving up the tying goal early in the third period.

And Capuano refused comment on Tuesday, when DiPietro gave up a soft goal to make it 2-0 Senators, then dropped another soft shot for a rebound goal to clinch the 3-1 defeat.

"Rick's missed a good portion of the last four years and he's trying hard to get back to that All-Star level he'd been at," Snow said. "There's certain goals every goaltender wants back. We're all part of the team, all 23 guys on the roster. They all have to do what needs to be done to win games, it's not just one guy."

Snow said he has no plans to call up a prospect from Bridgeport just to shake up the roster. Forwards John Persson, Nino Niederreiter and Brock Nelson have all played well, as has defenseman Matt Donovan and goaltender Kevin Poulin in spots.

"The group we have [on the Islanders]) has won games this year and looked good doing it at times," Snow said. "If we call someone up, it'll be based on what we need at that position at a given time. We made some waiver claims at the start of the season to bolster our depth and we think that's helped with the development of our prospects in Bridgeport."

It may be painful for die-hard fans to hear, but Snow is the one who started this project, with Wang completely on board. He's not about to change course.

"We think this team can win," Snow said, "because we've all seen how well we can play."

This makes me sick!

Anybody who believes anything this (frank)ing guy says is a God damn moron. Last year he said we have the prospects to make trades to help our line up this year its , "I'm not trading any of our prospects". This guy is so full of shat and it shows how (frank)ing nuts Wang is, only a complete (frank)ing nut bag would believe in this (frank)ing bumhole. It's not about him staying the course. What (frank)in course? You have nothing prettyuch to show for your "rebuild" minus Tavares. That's right i said it. Tavares the only legitimate threat this team has. In five years of drafting in the top five you have one legitimate keepe besides Hamonic who is a good 3/4 and Martin but as far as threats go? This guy is a pompous jackass who thinks he's smarter than everyone. Guess what Garf? You're not. Your team once again sucks once AGAIN we will pick in the top 5 maybe first overall? You will go down as another horrible GM for this horrible franchise, the only people who think you are a good GM/intelligent are two (frank)ing morons on hockeybuzz, Wang, and yourself. I don't know which you were worse at being a shatty goaltender who could NEVER take it to the next level or a GM that didn't even know where the level was or what it was? You make iut sound like fans are inpatient, do you really think that's the case? Easy way for you to squirm out of the fact that YOU are not a good GM, in fact you are the worst minus Milbury. Your "rebuild" is a (frank)ing hoax just like you. You shatty (frank)ing wanna be goaltender/GM.

It's just so disheartening to be an Isles fan. Waiting year after year for something to give, for something to get excited about. And now Snow says nothing will change because we played a few good games and the plan is working.

Did Snow really say he's waiting for Ricky to regain his All Star Form? Or did I misunderstand that? I'm a bit tired right now so I hope I misunderstood.

This is very sad time for all of us.

Maybe they should have moved to Kansas and put us out of our misery.

This franchise no longer deserve fans like they have here on HB.

I wonder after reading those quotes from Snow. Will attendance drop?

I've said this for the past 2 years... and Ill say it one last time. I can only handle finishing in the bottom of the league for so long. Having high draft picks are def worth having to a certain extent. I get that. Although I didnt have high hopes for this season, I was expecting to see SOME progress. Nothing has changed what so ever. Im tired of having my favorite team being a complete joke, and on top of it, an owner and a GM who refuse to speak to their fanbase and pretend like its all going to work out. I'll take one last season receiving a top 5 pick...and thats IT. I love this draft class, and if we had to finish at the bottom, this is the year to do it. Do I hope for this...of course not. One more high draft pick on a short season, grab another high end talent and move on. Spend some goddamn money, let go of the mess DP has turned into, hire a legit coach...and lets get the ball rolling. This is the LAST season i can honestly tolerate this. We've all been beyond patient, restless, and irritated. If this team looks anything like this next year (and sadly I fully expect it to), im throwing in the towel. I just cant take being so pissed off about this anymore. One last chance Garth and Wang...and the fact im giving you one more year is absurd!

Agreed....much of a disaster as he is, he doesn't play enough to qualify. The first problem is that Wang is disinterested in the success of this team, which means he doesn't fund it properly. The top two problems with this team after that are the lack of Denis Potvin and Scott Stevens....until they come up with a solution for that, we will still see giants attacking our net, unmolested. The fourth problem is the "electric football players" defensive scheme that has apparently been implemented by the coaching staff. which needs to go- both the scheme and the coaching staff. DiPietro is at least a distant fifth to those problems....

Fair enough...but when you have 12 centers and no defensemen....it's called "reallocating assets". I understand not wanting to trade a solid prospect for Oleg Kvasha, but you need to do SOMETHING, pal. This team HAS assets. It also has problems. That's what the assets are for. The problem is your owner doesn't want to pay any adults to play hockey, which is why all of your assets are 20 years old, and most of them play the same position.

The inconsistency his team has shown, not just this season but in recent seasons, has been nagging Snow as well as the team's fans. But Snow, with the blessing of owner Charles Wang, committed to a complete renovation of the franchise, building it around John Tavares without much room for big-budget risks.

.....and the Titanic apparently had a small hole in the hull....

"I thought we were better [Tuesday] night. The challenge for this group is to find ways to win those games, facing a good goaltender. There's challenges every night."

....a good goaltender....as opposed to YOUR goaltender....

That said....as discussed above.....DiPietro is fairly far down on the list of "why this team plays like sh*t".....In fact, the other person mentioned in the last two paragraphs is FAR more of a problem than DiPietro.

"The group we have [on the Islanders]) has won games this year and looked good doing it at times," Snow said. "If we call someone up, it'll be based on what we need at that position at a given time. WE think this team has glaring holes, especially on the back end. We also think the ONLY WAY it CAN win more games than it loses (and not much more than that, given the lack of defense) is if it plays the same way, EVERY NIGHT. This coach, first of all, seems to have a "system" that doesn't really work in the NHL, and second of all, doesn't demand that they play well every night, and doesn't dole out any consequences for not playing well. That's why the very first thing YOU need to do, right now, Mr. GM, is sh*t can him, and replace him with a veteran NHL coach who will command "respect, or else" in his locker room.

While Wang is a huge owner of real estate, he also owns hundreds of millions in Marriott. Also, he made out with $700 million in CA stock (though he returned a portion of it). Remember, he's just a few years removed from donating $50 million to a University...sure tax write-offs etc etc..but I don't think he's close to being 'cash poor'. That said, even if his $890 million were all liquid, I can't imagine he'd want to watch $10-$15 million a year continue to errode after already having lost close to $200 million.

Who knows, maybe he has parked the team in Brooklyn for sale, but I seriously doubt it. I think it's more likely he sells a stake in it while maintaining a portion of the team.

- keaner17

If he has that type of cash. The interest off of 890 Milly would be alone would be far more the the Isles would make him worry about.
