I don't think other teams are going to show a lot of interest in a bargain bin signing dman who logs top minutes on the Isles. At best, he'd be a throw-in in a trade. I'd almost be willing to bet he'd clear waivers!

On another note,....Lighthousehockey did a little writeup on Cappy today.

One stat I found pretty wild was that the Isles have only won 4 or more consecutive games ONCE during his 162 games as an Islanders coach! WOW.
Meanwhile we have 10 losing streaks of 4 or more games.

Apparently stopping the bleeding isn't a strong point.

I just can't comprehend how much longer this situation can continue. Capuano is clearly in over his head, as he has never dealt with an NHL squad trying to take it to the next level. Snow and Wang need to stop focusing on the fact that he is a "nice guy" and start focusing more on the product on the ice. We have a few nice lines that could really click with the right coaching, mentoring, and instruction. These players are still all so young and can be molded into what the coach needs them to be. However, Capuano is not the man to do this at the present time, as he simply needs to be molded into an NHL coach himself. I am not putting him down, I am just saying it makes sense for Capuano to take on an NHL Assistant Coaching position with another squad before he makes the jump straight to being a head coach. Yesterday's game against the Flyers is clearly a great example that he does not make the right move when necessary (failure to call a timeout, failure to pull Nabokov, poor line combinations when under pressure, etc.). Even yesterday's game aside, Capuano has been suspect on many occasions.

As for our lines, it may be time for a shakeup, as well. This is all incumbent on switching coaches, as clearly Capuano won't make the big moves necessary. Upon bringing in a new coach, it would not hurt to call up Niederreiter. It also may be time for Okposo to watch a few games from up top, get into proper game shape, and then insert him back into the lineup when he looks a little more prepared. He clearly was not doing his conditioning during the lockout, as is evident by his slow-footedness and his head always being down. I'll leave Aucoin in, although he has not looked good the past half-dozen games, either.

That's why you'll never see a solid veteran coach come here. They'll never pay a veteran coach and no veteran coach would want to come in and work under Wang/Snow. Cappy's a roller coaster. Some games, he does a fine job. Most days, he's got a team putting out a putrid effort like yesterday. The team would be better off with a veteran coach, but that likely won't happen.

I don't think the price tag issue comes into play when it comes to coaches. NHL coaches don't make enough for that to be a decisive factor. For example, Mike Babcock is one of the highest paid coaches in the NHL and only makes about $1.8 million a year. Most coaches salaries range between $600K to $1.5 million. Point being, if you're paying close to $50 million in team salary, I doubt saving $500k on your coach comes into too much consideration regardless of the team. If anyting, that would be the one place worth splurging to get the most out of your cheap crappy team....

I think the lack of a vetern coach plays more into the very reason Nolan and Lavi we're sent packing. Vetern coaches tend to be headstrong and want their ideas at least considered. In the Isles case, I don't think Wang wants input from that level. They'd rather bring up a lapdog from the minors who will play nice and do what he's told. The moment Gordon clashed with a few players and made a couple of comments about the roster, he was gone.

Is it really a sold out "home crowd" if at least half the people attending were Flyers fans? Just sayin'.

I've been an Islander fan since 1978. I could never understand why everyone is always so negative in their comments. I always tried to stay positive and have faith in Garths plans or vision. I'm now at a point that i've had enough of this BS. We need a coach with structure. I feel we have a decent blue line but, they appear to be disorganized and chasing the puck. KO and Bailey you've had enough time to develop. Enough is enough step it up or sit them. We need to trade some of these young prospects and get more establish solid players. Tavares isn't going to be young forever build the team around him now. I don't think we realize how aweful this team is because Tavares makes the team look better than they are. I can't take this any longer!!!!!!!!!!

However Bailey coincidentally had an injury at the time. I'm willing to bet that if Josh was healthy and ready to go, it might have been a different story. Unquestionably Wang is functioning on the lowest possible budget, but I doubt saving a few hundred thou on a coach was more important to him than hiring someone of less resistance.

Not me. I still say he suffers from Tim Jackman/Nate Thompson/Andy Hilbert/Steve Park Syndrome. Put fourth liners on the first line and bottom pair D as your top shutdown D, and this is what you get.

By the way, watching Okposo get flung around by Bruno Gervais was the moment I officially stopped having any hope whatsoever for KO.
