My parents rented a cottage last summer near Bracebridge - one cottage on the entire lake.

There's something to be said for not having to put up with 21-year-old idiots blasting Bon Jovi all day.

Of course, at one time I was one of those idiots...

id love that, a lake to myself, id fish non stop and have beers since no police!

the restaurant is separate from the fence, fence is owned by a guy running an unofficial motel.

The rumour is the fence guy is being paid to do it by cottage owners just south of him.
- Atomic Wedgie

I've heard one of the reasons the crap he's doing is continuing is because some of those owners happen to be judges, as well.

The whole thing is based on ambiguous property documents, that state the property extends down to water level... but don't take into account the shrinking of the lake. Every year, the bumhole's property gets deeper

Couple of years ago, he put up a cross-beam between his fence and the skidoo rack... right at head-level. Sister got KTFO.

There are other, quieter beaches in the area... with less ass fence builders.

Take him to the nearest Fur Tree, next time, get the balsam and fill the cut. Works great. Then tape it.

It's really quiet, the next three cottages are way up the lake, you basically have only two boats on our end of the lake during the summer. You can take a paddle boat around the whole part of the lake. We are secluded as the lake twists to the left then opens up, where we are there is nothing to the right but trees and rock cliffs, we (my family) own everything to the left up until the twist in the lake.

IMHO, anything from 8th to 9th is just about the nicest beach on earth.

No rocks. Just perfect sand.

We don't generally go anywhere near the fence.

But half a kilometer south of the fence?

Pure heaven.

The idea of owning your own cottage is nice, and one day I'd like to buy one myself, but I think renting may be better... once you buy a cottage, you feel like doing anything else with your weekends is a waste, and you wind up doing a lot less

Reminds me of when I was a kid, every summer for two weeks up at Big Doe lake, from 4 to 12 years old.

It's cool because you can see across Nottawasaga bay to Collingwood...the ski hills are contrasted in the winter

If you are ever up around Collingwood, there's a restaurant called Ted's Range Road Diner.

http://www.meaford.com/teds/index.htm

Check outt he menu - all sorts of crazy meats there.

Sadly, the restaurant isn't nearly as good as it was 10 years ago (in my humble opinion).

You ever tried Catch 22? Was in Collingwood - moved to Wasaga this past summer. Pretty good food when we went.

I've never actually stayed at Wasaga.

We either do Collingwood or Balm Beach.

20 years ago, you couldn't rent anything.

Today? You can get whatever you want, with a side of cheezy garlic bread.

Everyone is trying to pay for their taxes through rentals.

And that goes double for the US.

Ever been on www.vrbo.com or www.homeaway.com?

Great way to kill an afternoon - just check out what you can rent in various placed in the US. Hint: try the Orlando area. You can get mansions (8 bedrooms or more) for $200 a day or less.

A few years ago (in the depth of the US recession) I rented a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom place in Pacific Beach in San Diego. It was right on the boardwalk - my front door, boardwalk, sand, Pacific Ocean. $175 a night.

Dakota is a great place. Definitely check it out.

Lots of other great bars in the area as well.
