and Frenchy...yes that does irritate me, because Wilson is the worst coach in leaf history, i hope he chokes on a bottle cap.

I think that has a lot to do with guys like Holzer and Fraser stepping up so that Carlyle can start trusting his 2nd and 3rd pairings to take some of the heat off of Dion. Franson has been very sharp so far this season...definitely playing his way to a permanent spot on the top 6. The play of Holzer and Fraser and pretty much made Gunnarson expendable, especially since they tend to play much more physically than Gunnar.

I like how he plays now than ever. He finally doesn't have the pressure to be producing PPG. He's playing simple game, chips in offensively only when safe, very physical on the body without penalties, smart plays and his slapshot is becoming more accurate.

He's no longer a pylon in my books if he keeps this up.

in fairness to Wilson, he never got the kind of goaltending the Leafs are getting right now (on a consistent basis at least). and you can point to defence but the Leafs are giving up shots and opportunities.

So we're 1/3 of the way through the season and we're in a playoff spot although, to be fair, other teams around us have games in hand so it's not exactly 100% accurate. NHL should just go to win% like every other North American sports league, but I digress.

Anyway, a win tonight in regulation is basically a 4 point game for us considering how the Lightning are one of the teams trying to catch our spot. A loss would be pretty bad considering they also have two games in hand against us.

I like where we are (five points up on Philly with a game in hand and 7 points up on the Sabres/Isles) but we're going to have to start distancing ourselves from a few teams or hoping that some of the teams around us (i.e. Habs, Sens and one of Carolina or the Lightning) start to fall off. That being said only the Pens have more wins in their last 10 games than we do (talking Eastern Conference of course).

thats because wilson NEVER had a system set up for D, it was either we score or they get a 2 on 1 or 3 on 2.

The teams are playing totally differnetly. No fairness to Wilson, he had plenty of oppurtunity to turn this team wround.

With all due respect to Carlyle, he has done a great job with this team.

Tell me coaching does not make a big difference

They are giving shots from the outside... not 5 shots in a row in the danger area like last year..

These goalies were always good.. the defence & team play wasn't.

Never seen so many easy tap ins in my life.

We could've had Lundquist last year and would've still lost badly the way they were playing in front of the goalies.

30+ shots from the outside.. is easy work for an NHL Goalie.

Pretty much the same line-up to choose from.. big difference in results from the team buying into Carlyle's system.

We didn't have the Gratzky's & Lemieux's to play Wilson's game.. I am sure he would've won a cup with the 80's Oilers.. nowadays.. he couldn't win jack.

Best move was firing Wilson... & hiring Carlyle.
