I lived there for about five or six years. The Byward Market is okay and some stuff on Bank/Elgin (ESD poutine at 3am? Golden!) is good but it doesn't really compare to the variety and quality to be found in Toronto. That's not to say every restaurant in Toronto is amazing and every restaurant in Ottawa is terrible but from a comparison standpoint Toronto wins hands down in virtually all categories.
Shawarmas are good in Ottawa, better than the average in Toronto IMO, but Toronto has infinitely superior street meat. So it's kind of a wash as far as I'm concerned. - deerow84

Ottawa cant even compare to TO on any level...although the canal is fun.
Montreal is great....no complaints about it....except the french people. - Fakepartofme
Are you familiar with the Ottawa Valley? Its a great place to live. The area arond Ottawa has far more to offer. Mt Tremblant 2 hours away, Algonquin park less than 2 hours away, Gatineau park, Calypso. Theres always something happening in Ottawa. Most people hate Toronto and for good reason. I don't mind going there every now and then but it definitely doesn't make you feel very Canadian being there. |

Shawarma Palace in Ottawa is the number 1 in Canada.. You Torontonians have no idea what you talking about when it comes to Lebanese food. |

I would never live there. I've spent lots of time there tho.. Not sure if I've been to church street but I've been to MTL and had a smoked meat sandwich - Arctic_AARDVARK
So you like MTL smoked meat logs better than Church Street's in TO? I hope you're in on this joke and are catching my drift hehehe

Toronto has all that within distance too. I live in Milton and still prefer that to Ottawa.
There is no good reason to hate anywhere just because your preferences differ. That said, living in a place with more choices and options is hardly going to be inferior to a place with far less to offer.
Dont feel very Canadian being where? Toronto? Really? Let me guess, the diverse cultural surroundings too difficult to stomach? Awesome. Good to meet you Don Cherry on haterade. |

Toronto has 6x the population. Ottawa can throw a better party than TO. Street meat goes to MTL. I lived in the glebe and usually just stuck to pubs. I'm not saying the food is better there, it's just a better place to live IMO. The Ottawa valley is far nicer than the GTA - Arctic_AARDVARK
I've heard they have huge drug problems in Ottawa. Is that true? Also, while the government creates a lot of jobs, if you're outside the government, there really isn't much there for you. Regardless of the capital being Ottawa, realistically the country is run out of Toronto more than Ottawa. I'd say Calgary has more significance as a city these days, given that Calgary and Edmonton are keeping a good portion of the country afloat. I hear the Maritime economies are improving as well. Not as much unemployment in the past. |

My dad was Lebanese. So I think I have a good handle and understanding of this. I think you have no idea what a real delicious Shawarma is. Along with Falafel, Tabouleh, Hummus and so on. Shawarma Palace |

My visits to Ottawa have been thorough unimpressive. As far as Mt Tremblant being two hours away, I'd say the Muskoka region is far better than anything within driving distance of Ottawa. The Ottawa River is nice and all, but nothing special. |

Don't pull the race card on me asswipe. People hate Toronto cuz it breeds ignorant people. I wouldn't live in any big city if i had the choice, they all have their fair share of crackheads and ambulance sirens going all night. Leave me be at my little house down a country road. |

You need to travel more, and experience the entire country. It does not all revolve arounf Toronto. You guys are certainly touchy about people not wanting to live their.
Everybody has the right to their opinion, even outside of hockey.. you sound like UG, trying to change their minds. About food and where to live.. really. |

Unless you find a lot of interest in touring government buildings, it seemed kind of slow. And if you find interest in that kind of thing, I'd say I found Halifax a lovely place to visit. Some of the tours of the old places, like the Citidel, and going by the naval base, and even around the inlet, where you find all kinds of old cannons from wars of years past, were quite nice.
I find it odd that someone saying that they didn't like Toronto, but preferred Ottawa, would cite "always something to do in Ottawa", as a reason. I found it quite dry.
Personally, I think my favourite might be Calgary. What a beautiful city it is. And a lively city for sure. And with the mountains so close, it truly is an incredible place. |

Awe FFS... Don't start with this poop now. I grew up there and it's not that special. Just a place to rich people from Toronto to go to to ruin the peace and quite of the people who live there year round. Nice country in some places but if you people would travel a little more you'd realize much of Ontario and Quebec look the same. |
