a miracle run, maybe, but he still hasnt' shown any signs of slowing down. my point was that it's possible for goalies to play really well in front of poopty defense

Your team is much more disciplined. Even with all your replacements for injuries.

The team is terrible. There is no debating that. They have been terrible for years. This is professional sports where the goal is to win a championship. Real fans want that is voice their displeasure. Real fans don't say "Yay for being average. Let's give them a trophy as a participation award".

I was called a fairweather fan for calling out Ruff and calling this team mediocre at best. I guess some people really don't care to see this team win a cup, I'm not one of them and I will voice my opinion about this team because I CARE AS A FAN.

- sensarmy_11

i'll give you that. i don't often think the coach makes THAT much of a difference, but paul maclean has been a miracle worker in ottawa.

you said that NOBODY could put up good numbers facing that many shots and zone breakdowns, i was just giving you an example.

and really, i didn't realize i HAD to be a sabres fan to chat in this blog. i suppose you NEVER go into other boards and post.

When you are trying to compare Craig Anderson to Ryan Miller.
You lost all credibility.

why exactly? other than one GREAT year, what has miller actually accomplished, other than being an above average goalie. if you take away 09/10, and look at his numbers, they aren't anything spectacular, yet you act like i'm comparing anderson to ken dryden or patrick roy.

miller is a very good goalie, i'm not denying that, but you're talking as if he's some mesiah between the pipes.

you're assuming we're actually gonna have an offense?

maclean's strategy is going to be to protect anderson as much as possible, rush the puck almost never, and hope the other teams scores on themselves, allowing ottawa to win 1-0.

Miracle run, definitely.

My point is that a goalie can have a good run while under those circumstances, but eventually, reality will hit and a defense that bad will hang the goalie out to dry in the long run.

BTW I could name several goalies who would be better statistically then Miller. Easily

- Smittyx36

And this is fact?
Please stop!
No goalie in this league can put up good numbers with this defense in front of him.
If you think there are, you must be smoking the very best stuff around Buffalo.
Again. This is not Millers fault. If you think it is you need to watch more hockey.

come on man, it's not like it's steve mason between the pipes here. anderson is a VERY good goalie, and has put up great numbers pretty much everywhere he's been. he was a vezina finalist just 2 or 3 years ago.

Its mostly on twitter, I use it a lot during the games when I'm not actually at the games. I call out ruff and I get a bunch of people calling me a fairweather fan and saying ruff is amazing. I just respond with your not a sabres fan your a mediocre fan.

He would be top of the league every year if he were playing in a system that was based upon puck control and keep things to the outside. He has a weak glove but is good at cutting down the angle. If the crease is crowded he can't cut down the angle as well (and there is the obvious tips that no goalie has a chance on). But i think that goes for a lot of goalies, look at what elliot did when he left you guys.

i don't think anybody said it's millers fault. simply that miller hasn't exactly been a world beater this year either...i've seen him let in quite a few soft, and deflating goals. he's not exactly in a position to be calling people out, he could be playing better too.

I am not saying he is a bad goalie at all.

What I am saying is exactly what Yost has been preaching for days now, and that is Anderson's numbers will eventually come crashing down to more towards what his normal numbers are, and especially with the defense he now has in front of him.

If he plays at this level all season, then you have a point, but he won't.

Where did I say good numbers lol? I said better numbers, as in better then Millers sub par numbers.

Also where did I say we are losing because of Miller? You said no goalie would have better numbers here then Miller and I strongly disagree.

Stop assuming that I think Miller is a bad goalie and that he is the problem.

He clearly has a reading problem, No one said its Millers fault. He is obviously just a big big big Miller supporter and feels offended when Miller isn't talked about as amazing.

i would consider it to be the other way around.. if you are a true fan of the team you realize that 15 years of the same hasn't worked.. something needs to change.

little overly optimistic. everything being equal (teams, systems, etc) i think there are a few goalies who are as good or better than miller. (lundqvist, rinne, price, quick, luongo, etc)

obviously i don't think he's going to maintain his current pace, which would SMASH nhl records. but i think he could easily finish the season with a GAA just a little over 2.00, and a save % over .920....and that's in front of a pretty bad D.
