In all seriousness, a student loan isn't necessarily a bad investment. The disconnect lies in the notion that you could take out a loan and go to school to do whatever you damn well please and then rake in a ton of cash. I went to school for accounting. I have a student loan, and a house, and I am well on schedule to paying off both. Had I gone to school for even something like English or History, however, I'd probably be struggling to pay off just the former, and the latter wouldn't be even a consideration.

I currently work in doing some now, but since my degree does not say accounting on it I cannot even get a return phone call for an interview.

The problem there is the CPA license, in which, in most states, unless you have something outlandish like 10 years of experience under the supervision of a CPA firm, you need an accounting degree. The problem there isn't the college mentality. It's the law.

EDIT: In New York State, it's 15 years without the degree.
