last season is irrelevant and this is more like 26-27 game mark in a normal season and harder to make up ground for teams off to a slow start since 2 points guaranteed on a nightly basis to every team. No western road trips.

That has nothing to do with anything. In a shortened season, the gap is smaller. The habs being first in the northeast doesn't guarantee them poop, the leafs being 10-6 doesn't guarantee them poop. Either team were to lose 6-7 straight, they're in the basement.. And it won't be easy to get out of it.

Fact of the matter is, you're as naive as they come if you think your teams record 16 games in guarantees them anything.

No, all non playoff teams can win the lottery. The fact you don't know this baffles me. Odds same except 30th place team now has 25% chance not 48% chance to get #1 pick same as NBA now.

Not saying 16 games in guarantees a spot but I would rather be the Habs than the Caps for sure.
