Then find another team.

Perhaps you forget, as most angry/sour Philly fans have, that the Flyers signed Emery who was VERY GOOD until his necrotic hip happened. Then, an emergency situation was warranted and Leighton was brought in along with Peter Laviolette in the midst of a swoon. Leighton nailed down the goaltender position and helped the team pile up some points until he was felled by injury. Boucher came in and helped clinch the playoff position away from the Rangers.

All this "I wanted him" before talk is meaningless without context. Who were the Flyers goalies when Anaheim waived him? What was their cap situation?

- Flyskippy

Not sure. I loved the emery signing. Thought he was underrated in Ottawa. Typical Philly luck developes rare hip problem. But could have had bryz

Looked like they were on different lines.

Voracek had 3 assists playing with Giroux and Read. Did play a few shifts with Briere and Schenn in the second, including getting an assist on Schenn's goal, while Simmonds was serving a fighting major.

Agreed; they miss Carle's skill set. You can't expect the guy to do what he did in Game 4 vs. Boston in 2010 (4 assists in the game) every night, but to get that sort of a passer from the point - someone who has to be respected coming out of the zone because he can both skate and pass out of the zone well - would go a long way in spending less time hemmed in their own zone and more easily gaining the O zone. Plus, he sure blocked a lot of shots. Not as many as Timonen and he didn't get nearly as banged up, but he still blocked a lot like Desjardins - with his stick.
- Flyskippy

I think some have an inflated view of Carle's acumen as a puck mover and pointman. It's not like if Carle was here that he'd be winning those physical puck battles along the D zone boards and getting the puck out so much better than the guys here now...he's just not that guy. Also, when you look at it, besides the occasional risky stretch passes and/or passes across the middle, most of Carle's "first passes" were simple passes to his D partner who then made the pass up to a forward or skated it out of the zone (think back, how many times he would just get it to Timo who would confidently carry the puck out before getting it to a forward, or to Pronger who would often gain the zone by firing a shot on net once past the red line)...and Carle rarely skated the puck out of the zone himself. He was also pretty underwhelming from the point. In certain ways, it makes sense to want Carle to still be around...a top 4 is injured Timo is banged up, the new faces aren't exactly finding their game with the team (yet)...yes, it would have been a nice luxury to have Carle to pick up some slack...but he's just not worth what he's being paid and that ship had to sail. I think he's not an anchor type D that Tampa paid him to be and they have one of the worst D's in the league to show for it. There are guys on the team that are more than capable of making a good firts pass or even skating it up ice...Timo, Mez, Gusty, Grossman, Schenn, Coburn...Matt Carle didn't bring anything special that the team now sorely lacks.

Edit...he does have a very good active stick and is good in blocking shots with it, but his failure to complement/follow up his stick checks with taking the body made him prone to being beat by skilled or poweful players and being beat along the boards and in the slot.

We were in the Poconos for my wife's grandmother's 97th birthday. Four hour drive home. Listened to the Flyers, the end of the Sens and Devils and then the first period of the Colorado-Nashville mess.

The Isles have beaten the Rangers and Devils in their last two games-destroyed the Devils.

But no, not convinced. Hopefully, Giroux gets going. If he's playing near what he did last season, this team will look better.

Isles also have the #2 PP in the league. The Flyers' PK today shut them down quite nicely.

PK has been really good of late anyhow...21 straight kills, IIRC....very nice to see how well it went today.

Also, Isles PK was very good coming into today, Flyers went 2/4

Yeah, #4...I hadn't realized that.

Hope they continue the high energy play. It's a matter of consistency now, and the Pens certainly won't be a cakewalk.

The kill on the 5 on 3 was a mix of great PK and an awful pp. big part of the game though. After it could have been 5-0 Flyers, but was only 1-0, to then be facing that kill was not good. Worked out well in the end. How that became a 5 on 3 was remarkable officiating and boneheaded plays/words by the Flyers

The Isles guy mentioned that they were one of the best on special teams, both ways. Impressive considering their record.

I think O'Halloran just had the red ass and was being over-sensitive. I didn't seem as if the Flyers were really complaining as much as they could have. I hate how thin skinned the refs have been this year

It's funny how, as bad as the refs have been this year, they are so quick to call the unsportsmanlike penalty when players give them a hard time about it.

Or maybe it's not so funny after all.

They miss blatant poop and then call a ticky tacky interference and an unsportsmanlike to boot. They are cut from a different clothe.
