there are the dudes that put up point/game+ year-to-year, then there are guys that, due to variance, range from 50-70 year-to-year. you'll see courturier in that latter group and given his defensive contributions, gives him #1 center value, imo.

he no fight no score no hit cant skate.

Couts is a bust.

And I think something about Jsaq putting on weight, wearing an eye patch, and now staring in some hack movie. Idk, a bit confused.

I also heard it's Jeff Bridges Avatar Day (in my head). I watched Tron last night.

So, what is the best way to address that need? Draft to a position of need, consider this year and the next 2 a bust/rebuilding? Trade from a position of weakness and overpay ridiculously? Try to acquire a group of solid #3/4 defensemen and hope they can carry the load spread out?
- jmatchett

The key is to have 6 solid guys you can match up against any line. They have 5 when healthy, Timonen, Coburn, Mezaros, Schenn and Grossmann. Get one more solid, durable guy and they should be fine. Even better, if you can move one of the existing 5 along with picks and prospects for a better defenseman, than go do it, as long as you don't trade Couturier, Brayden Schenn or a high 1st rounder.

When the Flyers won their cups and went to the finals 3 straight years, their D was solid but far from spectacular. None of their defenseman were anywhere near Orr, Brad Park, Larry Robinson, Borje Salming or Serge Savard in talent, but each was solid in his own end and they could all be matched up against anyone.

Really? Lavy told to change system So forwards stay back instead of going on the offense. Hence every game 1 or 2 goals. Last couple years if our guys were Snakebitten we still had 3 or 4 goals or at least alot of scoring chances. This year squat
- SMS4016

That has nothing to do with the goalie. Bryz was scary early on last season, but rounded into form, and was a rock at times the second half of the season. Yet in the playoffs it looked like my mens league team borrowed the Flyers jerseys and suited up. Terrible one dimensional hockey. You cant win that way... Hence the Flyers adjusting. Unfortunately it hasnt been a smooth transition.

Yeah, I can see how that all falls at the feet of Bryz.

Do you know how many teams play that kind of style and have no problem scoring goals? You seriously place that on the goaltender? They changed the way they play in the defensive zone to become a better team defensively. It has zero to do with the goaltender. You're badly misreading that situation.

You mentioned earlier that Couturier doesn't hit. Do you think Giroux hits?

Huge flyers fan from buffalo. Here's sOme random thoughts. 1st off briere would waive nmc to come back to buffalo. He's still very well liked here. Start there trade briere for like a pysk and and a young grinder. Trade off talbot fedatenko gervais foster Sestito for picks. Trade cooter for either a young stud goalie ie bernier or puck moving dMan is yandle. Trade picks for true number 1 scoring young winger ie perry buy out bryz and pronger. That leaves g schenn Laughton as top 3 centers. That gives the d yandle? Kimmo schenn mez gusty and pysk. Young goalie to grow with young forwards and still young d. Ie like Pitt did with fleury Cindy malkin letang. But no Philly thinks they actually have chance to win cup every year. Guess what no you suck and are not ever going to win a cup again til they realize it. Sorry we are not beating Boston Pitt nj ny chi la sj van in 7 gm series. Yeah we got lucky and got to finals all cards fell right but at end of day chi took it to us and that was best flyers could play that year. This team is headed no where next to that finals team. Go young and stop telling fans cup is goal. I young a damn young team and with the simple suggestions they can do it. Really pissed me off weber yeah homer I want cooter and schenn for weber. No homer dummie should have said cooter 1st and read or something. He could have gotten it done but no. When you have a chance for that dman you take it.

Didnt read through all this mumbo jumbo, but BIGGER Flyers' fan from Buffalo here saying Briere still gets boo'ed when he returns here. Everyone feels he was a sellout and turned his back on Buffalo. Your suggestion basically blows the whole team up and fills it typical rumor names (Yandle, Perry). Settle yourself down and learn a thing or two about hockey before suggesting Couturier, Briere, Read, and Bryz shouldnt be a part of this team

Couturier has every bit of a chance to be as good as Jordan Staal, if not better. And he certainly has a chance to be a much better player then Brayden Schenn. I think the problem is that you're not seeing all of Couturier's game. Failing to mention his off the charts hockey sense and his future Selke level potential as a 2 way forward.
- MJL

J staal hits score timely goals plays great defense. Coots is young but his skating will limit him. Schenn will be better offense coots better defense. Schenn#2 coots #3.

maybe that's why I have a hard time seeing his potential. He's such an ugly slow-looking skater. He looks very thin and easlily out-muscled. I'm also concerned by accounts that he's a very shy quiet kid. Makes me feel like he doesn't have a lot of confidence. It's easier for me to see the potential in a guy like B Schenn.
- Dkos

Agreed 1000% that's why I say move coots to fill a major need. Teams need centers. Let someone else take risk on his potential.

Couturier hits, already plays great defense. And we'll see if in the same amount of time that J Staal has been in the League, if Couturier will score timely goals in that same time frame. I love J Staal as a player. Couturier can be every bit as good of a player as he is. Couturier skating will not limit him. And if both players reach their potential. Couturier will be a much better all around player then B Schenn will be.

Wait, did I read correctly that there's concern over Couturier being shy?! If that's a big issue, get Giroux the hell out of here. He's not outspoken, and it hasn't held him back so far (unless that's what you think is his problem this season).

We do need a puck mover. But you don't trade a player like Couturier for a player like Yandle.
What makes you think that Bernier is so good?

- MJL

Yes to do because in NHL now teams that can't move puck quick suck. Look at chi pit sj look at how fast those top dmen retrieve puck and turn to instant offense Then watch us. We won't win cup without puck movers. We have the defensive dmen now get a subban yandle Larson pietreangelo type. Young so the can grow witH young forwards
