We do need a puck mover. But you don't trade a player like Couturier for a player like Yandle.
What makes you think that Bernier is so good?

Briere doesn't have a say on a buyout. But he does on a trade.

He's 20 years old. Wait a few years until he matures physically. When a kid can come in and play in the NHL as a 19 year old in the situations he has. There isn't a confidence issue.
- MJL

Most 20 year old NHLers have more muscle than him. I don't know, it just worries me when I hear how quiet and shy a player is too. You're comparing him to guys who are leaders on their teams. You need to be a bit of a richard to be an impact player. Not sure I see that in him.

Couturier is vital to this team's success. More so that any puck-mover (Subban included) that they could acquire. He takes all tough minutes against other team's top lines and does it so well, and the fact that he can contribute on the offensive side -- hopefully blossoming into a regular 20g/30a guy -- makes him invaluable.

I'm conservative on his offensive output, not as a slight to his off. skills, but because he's likely playing with fellow defensive-oriented wings and constantly starting out in the defensive zone vs. other team's top lines.

Similar to Braydon Coburn on the defensive side.

- bradleyc4

i will be pissed if coots gets moved, even for a #1 dman, whatever the (frank) that is. i'm tired of us, in general, of moving our first round picks after a few years.

Exactly..

Couts played primarily on the 3rd/4th line in a defensive setting, often going against some of the better players in the league.. He wasnt playing with top end scoring talent. His job was simply to go out and try to shut down other players.

Howd he fair? Only the best +- on the team, and 27 points as a rookie. To put that into prospective.. Richards had 34 points while being counted on to put up points his rookie season.

He is a really big kid.. 6'4 190.. wait till he hits 210-215 and starts to really assert himself physically. IMO, he has scary good potential. There was a reason he was the #1 prospect for all that time....

There may not be a more quiet or "shy" player in the entire league than Pavel Datsyuk...

B schenn for yandle yes. Cooter for yandle no way. Same thing for subban. I understand about Laughton. But we can't just pencil him into a top 9. Although I think he will turn into an outstanding 3rd line center. I want the flyers to concentrate on roo, schenn, cooter as the cornerstones to a dangerous 3 line attack. Identify te next young timonen or Pronger. Get him in the fold and go from there
- Just5

Identify next dman? Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!! This team complete suck a$$ at that. When was last dman home grown. Daly Watson ??? Oh yeah my bad pitkanen #4 overall pick. If you want that dman gotta trade cooter. And for the record he can't skate and doesn't hit. Schenn decent defense Hits and will score more than coots so why would you rather keep coots over schenn.

Not seeing what's unreasonable about big expectations for Couturier, but that's just me.
- BulliesPhan87

Once it gets rolling on here it's just over the top. I'm not going to put the kid down, he's 20. Who knows what he'll become in 5 or 6 years. Which is my point. Calling him untouchable in a trade isn't realistic.

Comparing a prospect with 5 NHL games unfavourably to a kid with a season and a splash is an even bigger stretch.

Like I said, it gets out of hand.

This team already has the Goalie it needs. They do need a #1 D man. So propose a deal involving Couturier for a #1 D man, and we'll talk.
- MJL

Give me a list of people whose names don't end with "hea Weber" who you would define as a #1D. All I can think of:

Letang - no way never not in a million years would Pitt trade him our way for anything short of Giroux.
Chara - no way Boston ever lets him go
Karlsson - foot and leg not working right now.
Doughty - possible, but long shot, esp. after last postseason
Keith - long shot, but possible
Suter - no way Minnesota gives him up after the signing
Subban - signed to brand new super cap-friendly hit.
Pietrangelo - almost impossible to pry away due to cap situation
Carlson - I would see if the Caps are looking to deal. They might be looking to bolster the offense. Also, we should already have him
Green - do not want, overrated.
Bogosian - probably your best bet.

The only 2 players the Flyers might be able to get would be Carlson and Bogosian, unless there's another one I'm forgetting.
Also, I would not trade Couturier for any of these players except for Letang, Chara, or Doughty.

You need to be able to understand the game. Couts has the ability to shut down other teams top forwards. Look at how frustrated the Hart Trophy winner was in the playoffs last year, going up against that trade bate, dime a dozen rookie.

Those players I'm comparing him to, weren't instantly leaders on their team. They grew into it. I'd like to see how you can quantify that most 20 year old NHL players have more muscle then he does.

It's not that bad. They just aren't great defensively, don't have a top-line winger, have trouble on the PP, and aren't scoring. Just minor things to fix, then on to The Cup.

vanek, pominville, sharp, bergeron, krejci, ribeiro, pavelski, weiss, plekanec, and i bet fleishmann, wheeler, parenteau, purcell are prob some of those guys now

- OrangeBlack27

weiss is secretly one of my faves even though I hat the panthers. I think hes highly underrated.

He is lanky.. but so are most taller players who early in there careers.. Dougie Hamilton, the prodigal son of Boston, the lost son of Philadelphia, and the next Pronger/Lidstrom hybrid... is 6'5 193.

That is an easy call. If both Couturier and Schenn reach their potential, Couturier will be twice the player that Schenn is. And I think that Schenn is going to be a good player.

Do you think Claude Giroux hits?
