please no more buyouts...especially with cap coming down
- JIMI-JAMES

isn't that the reason you buy out? because the cap is coming down

and they haven't bought anybody out

any chance you have to upgrade your team, you should really try to take it. and O'Reilly is an upgrade
- bobbyisno1

how does it upgrade THE TEAM if you are subtracting major pieces like Gardiner?
It might be a slight upgrade down the middle, but not an upgrade to the team.

If you trade for or sign a proven #1 center who has a big contract, this would make sense.
- GCHonda

The only way at this point and u wouldn't buyout Grabs this coming summer..Save a buyout and see how it plays out..

Phaneuf and Kessel will need new contracts after next season...

if you think that is only a slight upgrade down the middle then there won't be any convincing you anyway.
and i see O'Reilly as a major piece in a position we are very weak in.

Oh, I'd be all for making a run at O'Reilly.

Gunnar, Kostka, Franson, Bozak, Grabovski, Liles, Holzer, Colborne, whatever... all tradable pieces.

But it's looking like the Avs want something along the lines of Gardiner+, and that's going to burn us.

Phaneuf will get less, Kessel will get more, it'll probably even out

One for one? I'd do it, yup.

But if the Avs want Del Zotto (and maybe even more), and there is truly a good deal of interest in O'Reilly, then Gardiner alone probably won't do it.

Draft odds remain the same this year, mid to late 1sts could be in play now

we already have 3 2nd line centres, without a doubt our strongest position.
whats needed is a number one centre.
If the reported ransom the av's want is true, then it's Gardiner, a top prospect and a pick.
Way too much to fill a slot we already have covered.

Why not just have two skilled offensive D-Men? I dont see the benefit in trading either of these guys, especially when neither are even playing on the leafs right now. Wait to see how they develop and decide later

If it was straight up O'Rielly for Gardiner i would do it in a hurry but adding to Gardiner would have to be a low end prospect/pick at max and i would have to think hard about that especially if it's gonna take 5mil a season to get him locked up.....

I'm still not convinced this is for real. Carlyle's got him playing bigger, for sure, but I have a feeling this might turn into one of those regretful "should have sold high" moments.

U still have Liles for the short term and Phaneuf after the almost certain extension..It's not like the Leafs would have no point getter/PMD if they moved Gardiner...
