Ignoring the fact that O'Reilly is actually a bit younger than Gardiner. - Feeling Glucky?
And how rare it it for a 20yr old to score at that pace. |

You say this like it's something new. I don't get the super hard on for O'Reilly. As soon as any young player is rumoured to be on the way out, every single time we read about the Leafs would be crazy not to make the move. - weirdoh
I hear ya, but just because Holzer, Kostka and Fraser have been pleasant surprises so far this season, doesn't mean that the Leafs are flush with d-men to the point of trading Gardiner.
IF Gardiner was going to be dealt, I like to aim a little higher that Ryan (frank)in' O'Reilly! |

I still think that the Leafs could put together a package for O'Reilly that doesn't involve Gardiner is all I'm saying. |

So what would you offer for O'Reilly? |

Pretty amazing how quickly people have forgotten how impressive Gardiner was in his rookie season and now want to trade him for a 50 point forward who is asking for WAAAY too much money. - As_I_See_It
The Leafs seem to be coming around and it's getting close to the time where you can trade some of your strenghts (defence) for weaknesses (center)
.
During last years draft nobody could believe the Leafs took a defenceman. They took the best player....They knew they would have leverage to make a move for a center knowing they could move one of Gardiner or Reilly.
I'm not saying moving Gardiner or Reilly for O'Reilly. I would prefer they see if they could get Getzlaf or anothe r#1 center with the type of talent we can offer in a trade an still walk away unscathed.
If you trade Gardiner, Reilly replaces him seamlessly, if you move Morgan Reilly Gardiner's the man to build around on the backend.
It would be great to have both but if we ever want a good centerman we're going to have to draft him or give up one of the young blue chippers on the back end. |

They don't always translate into great NHL numbers but when you pair it with his top 5 selection and the way he moves the puck he's perfect in today's game...
I was just saying Gardiner gets the trade done....In saying that if I'm going to give up Jake Gardiner in a trade I explore my options for other number one centers before I go all in on O'Reilly. - tmlfan17
Exactly. If its two years from now and O'Reilly is showing continuous improvement then you go for it. At the minute people are talking about throwing in one of the better defensive prospects plus God knows what else for a guy who has 0.45ppg in his last three seasons (compared to Bozak at 0.55ppg).
I think that O'Reilly is a pretty certain bet to top out higher than Bozak, but still it seems foolish to trade Gardiner on hwat is nothing more than a wager right now... Remember, even Cheechoo hit 50 goals |

The Leafs have been winning and playing well without him. I'm willing to bet that he is a member of the Avalanche by the end of the month, and we'll welcome home Ryan O'reilly - Falon
Honestly, I wouldn't trade Gardiner for him. Even if Nonis did have a brain fart & did offer Gardiner for O'Reiily, the Avs would have the nerve to say no cause they would want more. So I hope the Avs fukken trade this guy soon to another stupid team who is willing to overpay so this will be over.

Way too much. Not to mention that they probably (definitely!) wouldn't want to take back about $15m in salary.
They're gonna ask for Gardiner, and I say "pass". |

You joking right? Sarcasm? Ha ha ha. Who are we getting Malkin? Scary thing is I wonder if Burke would have offered a Kessel type deal?

It has to not include him. I'd be comfortable leaving an offer of Bozak and Liles on the table, and then waiting for the Avs to accept when they have no better deals after a few months.
We can't include Gardiner; as a rookie Dman he put up more points that O'Reilly did as a rookie or as a Sophmore (and in fewer games). To put it simply, if we send Gardiner to anybody we sure as hell better get AT LEAST a high first back in return...

The Leafs aren't going to trade Gardiner....Unless it's for a legit #1 center.
I think the decent player that could be on the way out is Carl Gunnarsson.
I think he would be a good fit in Detroit or St. Louis.
I think the Leafs are going to ride this season out and see if they can finish in the top 8 which could help in signing free agents this summer.

Our pp is terrible! Gardiner should be up here first chance he gets. We sit Liles for Gardiner.
But something tells me they are trying to showcase Liles.
Phaneuf Gunarsson
Gardiner Franson
Fraser kostka
Bonzer
This talk about the Leafs needing a #1 center is justified but it doesn't have to be a Sundin type. I think we were spoiled for a while with Mats and Dougie. But Boston doesn't have a dominant C they have potentially 3 number 2 centers which is good balance. I would only send Jake over if we could expand the deal to include Duchesne. - StanleyCupDreams
Showcasing is a myth, especially when you're dealing with someone of Liles age. He's a known commodity.

Sooooo, sticking to the present, and ignoring unsubstantiated trade obsessions, what's the lines tonight? You guys think Orr will be beside Kadri and Mac again?
And is there any hope any team in the NHL might grab Komisarek? I can't possibly imagine that Nonis is happy paying 4 plus million to a guy to sit in the pressbox. And does Tin Man have to clear reentry waivers in order to be traded? |
