I hope for their sake they're not seriously considering trading Anderson (unless they're doing a full rebuild). If they're going to be competitive next season and beyond, they have to lock him up for a few years.

I said all last year that Ottawa isn't as good as everyone was saying. The pundits had a hard-on for those guys the whole season. Basically everything went right for them. We're going to see what happens now that they have some adversity to deal with.

- Jeffmt

I said the same. Career years for several guys, Gonchar's best year in many, no significant injuries, which is ridiculous for a team that has a bunch of old, injury prone players.

Yeah, but you have to know how to use him. He's a huge offensive threat and a power play cornerstone but he's not much of a defender. You need a steady stay at home guy available to play big minutes and counter some of Karlsson's defensive deficiencies. They're next best defenseman is Gonchar, a guy pushing 40 who's no dynamo in his own end either.
- Jeffmt

Thats supposed to be Cowen. Another guy you cant count on for a full season.

True, but he's not totally wrong either.

Not totally but I think people talking about his defensive deficiencies aren't totally right. Lidstrom wasnt a physical beast but controlled the puck so incredibly well and had such a great stick that he didnt need to be. Karlsson plays much the same. and no, Im not equating them.

Lidstrom could play with or without the puck. So far, Karlsson can't.

It took Lidstrom time as well. As with all dmen, it will take time to see how good they actually are. Anyone who has watched Hedman play this year can testify to that.

Which is true, they have terrible depth. All these great young forwards they've been chirping about.... Silfverberg and Zibanejad don't even look like they belong in the NHL.
- prock

The funniest thing about all these injuries is that before the season started Melnyk said "The other 29 teams in the NHL are jealous of the Sens' depth"... they're now an AHL team after about 4-5 injuries and have gone from one of the top seeds to talking about a blowing the team up.

Cloutier says whatever he thinks will get him the most hits. Just yesterday he said the Oilers aren't good enough to make the playoffs. His only interest in this website is getting as much money out of it as possible.

This is going to shock you, but we don't get a lot of Tampa Bay games televised up here in Toronto. I know, I know. I'm on the phone with TSN and Sportsnet every day about this.

Lidstrom was 30 when he won his first Norris Trophy. Karlsson won it at 22. Think he's got time to figure it out?

Offensively he's light years ahead of him at that age. Be great to see what the greats could do in this pussified league wouldn't it? All the crying Mario did about people clutching and grabbing...imagine him getting the calls he so desperately needed to get called so he could do his job properly?

As I said, the long term is not known yet. Just made a simple point. Any team would love to have Karlsson. (injury recovery notwithstanding)
