I was upset when we lost Carle anddo believe he got a bad rap here.. I thought Tampa overpaid him, but seeing how coveted dmen of his skill are now, maybe he isn't.

That falls on the coaches...NJ doesn't have a ton of great puck movers, but their forecheck is relentless.
- Jsaquella

Don't know enough about the NJ D to comment on the Devils defensive and transition game ....

But I agree the coaches, GM and the staff are partly to blame in Philly...but what can you do ... Pronger injury, Suter offer, Weber offer sheet, UFA Carle, Mez injury ... things happen and you try and adjust the best way you can.

Our D has obvious cracks and is very vulnerable to the opposing team's forcheck.

If Lavy's system revolves around a certain style/type of player and the GM can't get the needed players for reasons beyond his control, do you blame the coach or the same Gm that employed the coach and his system ?

I blame the GM and the coach. The GM, because he ultimately failed to get it done, and the coach for not adjusting his system. A great coach will adjust what he's doing to suit the players on hand.

The tragic life of Matt Carle...he just wanted to be who he was, not who people wanted him to be.

And that's really where this team misses Carle. He's a player that played over 20 minutes a game. And had the ability to make precision passes while under pressure of distance to the forwards to start the offense the other way. Occasionally he would turn the puck over, but his good plays outweighed the bad exponentially. There's a reason why he was one of the top point producers for defenseman at ES in the entire League. He was so under appreciated by many. So now that they're missing that element. The Forwards have to adapt and come back deeper. So the passes are shorter, and less riskier. Which also would put them in a better position defensively, if there was a turnover. And it's either the players aren't doing it, or the Coaching hasn't adapted and changed in that area. Go watch LA in the Cup finals last Season. Look at the short crisp passes they made in their breakouts.

I'll just place one caveat on that if I may. He failed to get it done this past off season. But when you make the decision to go in a different direction, as he did the previous off season. The transformation isn't overnight. It's a process. And it's still ongoing. If anyone wanted this team to be contending right now, well then they should have kept 17 and 18, and built the team around them. The Flyers chose not to. So from my perspective, were still in that process. The future is still bright. And we have to give the GM some time to finish what he set out to do. Now we'll see if Upper Management is willing to have the same patience.

Well, blame doesn't mean showing him the door. I expected a 5-8 seed, that is still attainable.

I'm not ready to kill homer. This is the second rebuild of his tenure, the last one made it to game 6 of the finals without a goalie...

I don't know about Lavy it seems in games like Winnipeg he adjusts then last night I don't know if he's to blame because the team stops forechecking and starts feeding the opposition the puck in the high slot.

That's what bugs me and ultimately keeps me from blaming Laviolette. Got to think if adjustments work from time to time, that it's the players not executing.

Yep.
Also, without our injuries and if NSH didn't match, I'm sure this team is looking like a top contender.

I share this sentiment myself. I think management will be patient, I just hope they are sensible in the additional steps needed to take for this thing to finish.

Shorten season. Flyers need to keep all players and coaches. Lets ride this season out and then make the adjustments during the offseason.
