He seems to have finally figured out what his purpose is. It's nice to see him starting to round out into the player everyone believed he had the potential to be.

Brind'Amour? Not with the same D ability but with numbers close to him in 2 years?

Isn't it asking too much? I thought Couturier didn't have the scoring touch, just the shut down ability. Brind'Amour could do both things well.

Ryan O'Reilly is out there up for grabs. Wish he could play wing and go to Pitts.

The defense is a mess with Timonen and Mez out no question. However, I would take Gustafsson over Foster, Gervais, and Lilja. Hes a better skater than all three IMO and can move the puck.

Whats the deal with Manning? I don't understand why the Flyers don't trust their younger defenseman and give them an opportunity to play. You only can get better with experience and not allowing them to play doesn't help their game IMO. Instead we keep sticking out players who are over the hill and have no future with the club.

Maybe they feel these kids aren't ready like Gust and Manning but I rather go down with these players if it was up to me.

The defense is a mess with Mez and Timonen. Just a poor defensive team we have. Bryz has made it look like we're better defensively then we really are this season.

Couturier was viewed as the top prospect in his class before an early season case of mono led to a slow start. He did rebound to finish with 96 points. He's got offensive skill, just remians to be seen how that will develop.

Discussed this with my pressbox buddy Anthony Mingioni (who was first to bring up the name). Yannick Weber has been in Therrien's doghouse in Montreal all year. I could see him being moved for a modest return.

Considering the Flyers' needs, I'd be fine with the team trading a third-round or later draft pick for him.

Yes, I know there would instantly be a zillion "Flyers couldn't get Shea Weber, so they got Yannick Weber" jokes. The latter is undersized and not very good defensively, but he's at least an upgrade on Bruno Gervais offensively.

yannick weber could develop into a very reliable 3rd pairing guy. iirc, he has a very good shot as well.

The d pairings look brutal. The beginning of this season has been tough for the Flyers. The injuries have been tough, but overall this team lacks that killer instinct. When they have the lead or are even tied they don't know how to finish it off.

For me Briere has been the worst, G isn't playing well and Mad Max seems flat. I think overall Rinaldo has been one of the best Flyers out there, playing his game and role perfectly. Also thankfully Bryz has been playing well or their record would be even worse.

Great shot, very good skater. Just a guy without a real position. He's even played a bit as a forward in the past. It's clear that Therrien has zero trust in him.

To me, he's at least an upgrade on Kurtis Foster and possibly Gervais as well.

The problem is that most of the d is 3rd pairing type player.

Too bad Leighton is hurt, we could use his mojo vs the Habs..
Even with Budaj in net, this is going to be a hard game to win.

And we have a #68 jersey that's not currently being used.

right...I don't get this at all. I love Lavy's up tempo style. Why hire the guy if your not going to build your team with this in mind?
- Dkos

Homer did try to sign Suter, Parise, Weber .... Jagr didn't wanna wait for the big UFAs so he went elsewhere and with no D signed, Homer had to trade for one = L. Schenn for JVR

You can't say Homer didn't try to better the team or build around an up tempo/attack type team.

also, i think that was my last visit to the devils arena. they don't cheer for their team when they score, they say to the opponent "you suck"

if a kid playing sports did that you'd say they had very poor sportsmanship, what a horrible group of rude a-holes in there. i thought if i got tickets down low people might be better behaved, but nope, our neighbors were once again rude jerks.

Did you expect anybody in Jersey to not be a jerk? That is silly

I think we play a conservative game like in Winnipeg and that Bryz plays solid. 4-3 Flyers win.

I'll always listen to offers.

I will to but I suspect the trade market prices will be far too expensive to seriously consider.

Saw a game there a few years back and I thought it was funny how few fans were at the arena.. Whole bunch of Flyers jerseys. It was a last minute decision to go so I went to the box office and asked if there were any tickets left... the girl laughed at me and said you can sit anywhere from the glass to the nosebleeds.. Sad that they don't get support for a well run franchise with the best goalie of all time.

Also, what's with the beautiful arena located in hole that reminded me a war zone..??

You lose 3 top defensman to injury, and that's what happens. I don't know any team that wouldn't be in the same boat.
- MJL

Agree 100%

Another puck moving D besides Kimmo that can shoot the puck on the PP is a must though. Extremely hard to find but filling that need would greatly change the team dynamic and overall play.

I'd really like to see the current group somehow get in a playoff spot after stringing together a few wins.. If we are, then Homer can maybe swing a deal with a team that may be more desperate or selling.

What happened in the first period? Flyers were all over them. It's a team game. As far as I'm concerned, the Goaltender makes a few saves that in my opinion, he should've made. And the topic of conversation today is much different. Instead, it's panic and talk of the Coach being fired. And losing sight of the big picture.
- MJL

Bryz should have had that third goal, definitely, but the chance came from a absolutely terrible turnover by Kimmo. And then Bryz had no chance to stop the GWG goal which happened after Read failed to clear the zone.

Watching this team try and fail to get the puck out of their own zone is taking years off my life, so I think I'll skip tonight's game.

This lineup looks like another loss. Danny Briere on the third line is ridiculous. Every line has its flaws in my opinion. No use talking about the D with no Kimmo.
