Ratner getting the go ahead to redevelop the land a week after the 25 yr lease has been signed, there is somethingn up there and it wouldn't surprise me if the Barclays cente is a temporary home while they rebuild the Coliseum.... Who knows, all speculation of course.

While I want them to stay in Brooklyn as long as they stay in NY I can live with it.

I'd be as happy as anyone if it were true but I seriously doubt it.
- keaner17

Who knows? There has been more speculation and rumours of him selling than not selling. In my experience in life where theres smoke there is fire. Quite a few people have told me he was selling, some that work for the team and one of who would know but like everyone else I won't believe it till i see it.

This is an interesting concept since I've heard the lease is actually with Ratner and not Barclay.

would much rather them stay in a redeveloped Coliseum then play in Brooklyn if it were a choice between the two. Why would i want them to go to Brooklyn? I watched them win 4 Stanley cups in that building. I'm no fan of Jayzee or commuting to Brooklyn if I don't have too especially considering that arena just isn't built for hockey. That is one of the many reasons that gives this one rumour a little believability. Now if it's a choice between Kansas City or Brooklyn I say Brooklyn hands down

I talked to a guy in a local planning commision up that way two years ago. He swore they were selling and moving out. He told me that he had heard from folks in thr organization that the Isles were off to KC. Point being that everyone seems to always have strong insistance that these things are about to happen yet we never actually hear it from credibe sources. We'll see.

The only thing is Brooklyn brings more attention. I worry they will still be considered small time on LI. You figure Ratner would want them in Brooklyn to help fill up dates in the building? I'm not sure what to make of any of this. Still too many unanswered questions.

Exactly. It's not the 80's anymore and the mom and pop money. Its big time business now and all about corporate money and exposure. In a perfect world staying on the Island would have been great but the reality is if they want to compete with the big boys they gotta go

If they have a competitive team and at least try to ice one they will not be considered "small time". I don't know how old youare but if you were around in the early eighties you'd understand what I'm saying.

Agreed. As a San Diego Chargers fan I've dealt with years of rumored moves to LA. The idea of my two teams playing in Brooklyn and L. A. sucks. I'd much rather they stay in Nassau if its a sustainable situation. The area has always struck me as the anti NYC which i like.

I remember the Cups well but the team still seem to have trouble attracting the attention and this was being a dynasty team.

This is the thing Vukota. I'm not sure LI works anymore? I think once the Isles hit Brooklyn especially if the team is on the rise it will be tough to leave.

Just based on the turnaround alone, this team would receive a ton of attention regardless of where they are. 2001 is a good example.

No it's not but the reason they aren't relevant on the island is because they are not competitive and haven't been for twenty years! Them moving to Brooklyn is not going to make them relevant if they are run the same way. Imagine not being competitive for 20 (frank)ing years would do to any team! Not only not being competitive tack on them being an absolute joke managed and run by a bunch of clowns, it's kill any credibility associated with the club. Moving to Briooklyn is NOT going to change that as long as we have this management team and current owner. All the 70's, 80's and most of the 90's proved was that this team can not only be successful but out draw most teams in the NHL if run by competent people. Not this circus side show that made people forget how important this team was to the sport and how important they were to LI. If this team was competitive for 5 years(not asking much believe it or not)they would be a money making machine on the Island. Any smart buisness man could see that, it's not rocket science.

I guess you don't remember so well? Hottest ticket in the entire NHL for quite a few years. Not true, this team was the Penguins 30 years ago.

I just see Brooklyn and see a whole other level of media attention and possible fan attention. I can see a real threat to the Rangers.

Oh I know, we've all heard the same BS from time to time. I've heard more rumours about this team then I can remember or count but these seem to have substance? We'll see, nothing would surprise me at this point.

When I say attention I'm not talking ticket sales. I'm talking about being all over the back pages of the papers and truly being the talk of the sports world. Maybe this happened and I missed this. I just remember a general feeling of the Isles still not getting the respect. I thought there was talk among the players about this?

Which also makes them the very thing we despise. Bandwagon fans and media darlings... They may as well move to msg. I dont think the drive to Nassau hurts their ability to draw corporate attendance or media attention.
