answer: it's been like this for 9 years... People are still buying tickets. Until Wang sells the team, it will be nothing more than the Island of Misfit Toys. I can't stress this enough.

Snow does not have the tools to build a winning franchise. He does not know how/when to trade, sucks at signing/resigning players, hires idiots for coaches, and doesn't know how to evaluate/develop talent. That being said, I'd say we're (frank)ed.

the team barely brakes 8k ppl for attendence unless its a rivalry game, we both know that....ppl who buy sparatically are fans, but there is no consistency in attendence

Yes...starting now. They have a destination finally, and some young players UFAs would want to play with. Look at what happened after the Pens drafted Crosby and then Malkin and then players around the league saw what those guys did their first couple of seasons and said, "damn, I'd like to play with those guys." I believe we have that now with Tavares, which is why I think it makes it even more important to show the rest of the NHL we can compete. UFAs will want to play here and then, hopefully, we enter our new state-of-the-art arena with 1 or 2 playoff seasons in our cache.

I think Streit is a positive influence on the team. In the locker room and on the power play. Is he a good "defense"man? No. Some of you are holding him to standards that he's not at anymore. And, really only was for 2 seasons. If we do fall out of contention, then, see ya...Get a 2nd and a B prospect for him at the trading deadline.

I have no way of knowing but I'd be surprised if he is good in the locker room. Maybe some guys like he does not get in their face. I would like a more vocal leader. I'm hoping this is the offseason we see at least one bold move. I'm not expecting 5 top guys signed. I just have a problem if we bring back a lot of the same guys.

I think we need to resign Streit... we need him for @ least another year!!!
- jimmc7722

Yeah for sure, he's the best defensemen we've had in years and he's done well for the Isles these last 4 years and really - everyone knows Snow isn't going to sign or trade for anyone equal to or better.

Frans is best shootout guy in the league...and great with faceoffs. Even playing more physical since he was given a real contract and reliable on the PK. They're not trading him unless JT's twin-brother (separated at birth) surfaces and decides to play for Islanders.
- jmo16

I agree with you. I was only pointing out that I'd trade him for an O'Reilly type. Forget the shootout and the faceoffs...he's one our most important penalty killers. I was just saying I wouldn't just trade him for nothing.

The few of you on here who keep including Okposo as trade bait are out of your gourds. He's worth nothing right now. If the posters on hockeybuzz can acknowledge that he's been a liability then so do any talent evaluators who are employed by an NHL team. Streit is an aging offensive defenseman who's already in his 30s who in a contract year. Those two together aren't worth much. Someone wanted to trade them to Winnipeg for Evander Kane a couple of blogs ago. Are you (frank)ing kidding me? Why on Earth would the Jets make that trade?

He is the captain of the team. I'm not going to pretend I know what goes on in that locker room, but there has to be a reason why Cappy named him captain of the team. I'm guessing it has something to do with respect amongst his teammates and respect for the way he prepares himself to play.

that's my point. Stay the course and ride it out to the Barclays Center. If any fan is expecting a different plan by management, you'll be disappointed.

I'm not holding my breath. I expect Nino and Strome to play next season on the "big" club.

Can't see that neither. Donovan and (damn, hopefully) deHaan. They are not going to throw 3 or 4 million a year at a player like this.

There are a lot of interesting names on that list. I know one thing, Anaheim is screwed.
I would take a chance on Ryan Clowe if his price isn't too high.

this team will NEVER pay any of those top end guys the money they'll be seeking.

JT is Getting >$6Mil a season. His salary is the absolute ceiling this team will spend on (giving) a contract.

Snow robbed JT on this contract, great deal for the Islanders by Snow. The problem with this is exactly what you stated. He can't expect to always get that kind of contract with a player, especially one of Tavares caliber. It'd be tought to pay somebody more but realistically thats what is going to have to be done.

- jimmc7722
