I like Ennis. I just don't want to hold out hope that he's some second coming. He isn't untouchable. If we can get a bigger, stronger, more durable center in return for him, then I think it's worth the risk.
It's not a sure thing. Ennis has some real talent and could be an above average point producer for more than a few years. I just think that trading him for O'Reilly would improve the team.
and I'm usually the last one to encourage trades. Most never happen or flat-out don't make sense. This one wouldn't bother me.

I would be fine with swapping Ennis and O'Reilly but you have to remember we have a slow team already, getting rid of Ennis does not help that

If the Sabres could get O'Reilly for Ennis + I would do that in a heart beat. The Sabres have three skilled centers already, but could use a talented two way center in a big way.
Yea, still our 2nd best scoring line by far. - sbroads24
That's a silly comment. Of course they are the second best scoring line. If they weren't they wouldn't be the 2nd line. I don't think anyone thinks they score enough.

right, and if you get rid of one of the midgets, we are even bigger. - keptupl8
Not to compare but every team has players that are small. Datsyuk is small, so is Crosby, Breire is small and I never heard we needed to trade him to get bigger. Skinner looks fantastic and he's a midget. Teams can win with guys like Ennis

Well you said they havent produced. I'm just saying they are head and shoulders better than Ott/Grigo/Gerbe

I don't think we NEED to get rid of Ennis to get better. I just don't want to eliminate the option.
I think its great that we can discuss it without the usual douche-baggery that ruins the conversation.
I think having a guy like Ennis would be fine if our bigger guys used their size as a strength. It's possible that a guy like O'Reilly could be a catalyst for others to play a more physical brand of hockey-- and make us the tougher team to play against that was advertised. Maybe we could get him without giving up Ennis. But who else would they want?

I agree for the most part. It sounds like O'Reilly will be the real deal and just what any championship team desires. He seems like a mix between Bergeron and Richards, perfect shutdown offensive but defensive fowards that help you win the cup, I just think Ennis is under rated and If we have to give up Ennis + a guy like Mcnabb that might be over payment
