I was amazed at the 100% polar opposite opinions that CKNW's Dan Russell and CKNW's Bruce Allen.
Russell went bezerk over:
1. Kesler is back and they needed the cap space. Nothing to do with MM injury.
2. Why did MM get to play all last season?
3. Why did MM be so involved in the CBA if he knew he was on the way out?
Allen went bezerk over:
1. Finally A GM looking for the best interest of the player and not the team.
2. Thought of MM's future and lovingly retired him for the good of the player.
I don;t know what side to come down on here. Neither are 100% corerect but it sure is odd timing and why was MM allowed to playin the Stanley Cup finals? (Unless he kept the true nature of the iunjury secret... and there is a history of that at Brian Burrard of the Leafs fakes his results so he could return from a catystophic eye injury.)
Its amazing how rome is a top 4 d man in dallas...
Isnt he a norris trophy winning defensemen when he was in vancouver?
The guy needs have more minutes and MUST be in the top 2 pairing
I've said it before and will say it again, I don't understand why a rebuilding team like the Jets would trade away a player like Kane even if he isn't the most mature guy you can't just let players like that go. It's a pipe dream for the the Canucks to acquire him.
Jim Slater would be a nice player for a 3rd line center. - Nucker101
Vernon Fiddler or Eric Nystrom. Jason chimera. Slater, Glass etc are AHL players on a team with pathetic depth up front. I'd love the Canucks to get Little out of Winnipeg. Very underated player.

Slater is just as good as the guys you mentioned, he plays the Malhotra role except he's faster and scores more and gets more points, he's done it for years on bad teams so he doesn't get noticed. Slater is way better than an AHL player, I'd take him on my third line no doubt, he can play wing or center as well. Little is nice, but the cost would be higher and I don't know if he's really underrated. He gets lots of ice time and PP time and hasn't been more than a streaky secondary scorer.
That no goal call was BS, but overall a solid first period. Kesler makes the PP so much more dangerous and I really like Kassian playing with him. Schroeder having another good game, Raymond and Higgins playing well too. Bieksa and Garrison can't be a long-term solution as a pairing. Bieksa makes some bonehead plays sometimes. And Lappy needs some decent wingers, Volpatti and Weise are useless in the offensive zone and not great defensively either, they're both AHL players IMO.

Ah yes he plays the manny role. 70% on face offs? Right.Fiddler is far better. If Slater is our 3rd line center then we miss the play offs. He is our 4th line center and we don't win the cup. Fiddler should be our 4th line center

That's not what I meant. I meant is that last season he started his shifts in the offensive zone only 28.5% of the time(one of the lowest numbers for the entire league) and played against the other team's top lines. Yet he was able to finish his shift in the offensive zone 41% of the time despite the fact that he was playing against the other team's top lines and also somehow managed to score 13 goals as well. He's a fast skater, plays the PK and had 163 hits in 78 games last year plus 73 block shots, both those numbers would have been in the top 5 or so of the list on almost every team in the league.
Fiddler also gets used in a shutdown role but last season started his shift in the offensive zone 42% of the time and finished there 44% of the time, but despite the fact that he was used in a more favourable role he only scored 8 goals. He's slower than Slater, and only had 82 hits in 82 games with 67 blocked shots.
