last season Bieksa was 18th in Norris voting.

Guess who wasn't on the list?

- IanEsplen

If he's 18th in Norris voting, stands to reason he should be the #1 on at least 13 teams. What gives?

Justin Schultz - but wait till this year Hoo Boy!

You can score 1000 goals, but if you can't stop 2000 from going in you'll be first overall every year in the draft.

I think this is a good thing for Manny. I think Gillis is showing Manny he wants him to be a part of the Canucks/Wolves , and will soon be an associate coach.

Malhotra won't be able to work in any capacity for the Canucks while he is on long term injury. When his contract expires in July, he will have to make a decision if he will be able to play again or not. For the remainder of this year, I hope that he has an opportunity to stay close to the team, but for the most part I don't think that players like to have injured guys around, like when Cole Trickle wouldn't go visit Rowdy Burns in the hospital.

I was just kidding about Cooke, that whole ban him for life thing is silly.

I think if he scored 1000 goals he would win regardless of plus minus. who could argue that ?

Manny was with the team when he had the surgery. There was a few times the camera seen him in the corridors.

Yeah, I know he was around during the playoffs in 2010/11, it's different now, I think he'll work on rehab or additional surgeries. Maybe when the playoffs roll around he'll be there for motivation.

If you guys want to get rid of Bieksa, please feel free to send him to the Flyers. I have always thought he'd look good on the Flyers blueline!

All joking aside , if I asked you would you prefer Bieksa or Shultz ,your answer would be Schultz. He has an awesome shot and great skater and can move the puck.

Bieksa too, can do that (not as well ) but he is also good at fighting , he can move players from in front of the net and be an all around Dman.

Shultz is a great offensive Dman and in 2 or 3 years will make 6 M .
Bieksa is an all around Dman and make less.

Now look at the standings. Which team is doing better.

Sounds like there's a good chance, if all goes well, Ryan Kesler plays for VAN tomorrow night vs DAL.

He was full gear and colours today

YES! I had a feeling if I asked about him today a report would come out that he may play tomorrow...it worked.

I have no proof , but I think his hockey is over and no additional surgeries will be done.

I think this is Gillis clearing a roster spot and salary only ,like Ballard with his concusions last year.

I may be wrong.

If the canucks really wanted shults though we could have got him I don't think management pushed hard enough for him.

Nah we like him.

We're just debating who is better, Phaneuf or Bieksa?

Thoughts from a Flyers fan?

During the Karlsson debates last year, there was a lot of debate about a certain type of defenseman getting all the kudos. Two-way guys are bound to get uneven consideration imo.

Indeed, I'd be interested to see that voting. If I had to guess, Dan Girardi was the only guy in the top 20 you'd be able to call a "defensive dman".

I'm not going to harp on the blog too much though, you didn't harp on Oilers dmen really. Although if Bieksa was on the Oilers, a Bieksa-Schultz top pairing would look UGLY. Him and smid might pair well together.

Hopefully the Ryan Kesler of 2 years ago shows up this year, not the one from last year. I think he's fully healed and rested and we see the great Kesler. I'm excited...

Tough player, right handed shot, good wheels, good playoff resume, scores roughly .5 PPG. What's not to like? At $4.6M, he may not be a bargain but he's far from overpaid. Matt Carle makes closte to $6M on Tampa I believe. That is overpaid! Again, we are more than happy to take him off your hands!

I think Canuck have a pretty well rounded D and Corrado will add to it. I think we are set for the next couple of years there (2 or 3 ).

Probably Phaneuf but after his first 2 years and considering his draft position, he has regressed. I thought he was the next Larry Robinson after his first 2 years with Calgary. Having said that, Bieksa is a very solid player.
