I wouldn't say he has a horrible contract, during the last 2 seasons his full season pace was a 30+ goal scorer and he's only 21 years old. That's worth at least 5 million per, most 30+ goal scorers are guaranteed to get 6 mil + on the open market, and he could still get better since he's so young. We'll see how much RNH, Yakupov and Schultz demand, but it's possible that they can structure their team like Chicago has. Plus the cap will go up every year after next season.
- Nucker101

Is this for sure?

This year he is on pace to 15 goals . Does his salary go down?

Giving a player 6 mil after two years service in the NHL is nuts. Sorry.

This year teams send out their shut down lines out against them and you are seeing the results.

The Cap is never going up?

That is a weak argument...

Next year is When Eb and Hall get 6M...Nuge and JS still have a year on ELC...Yak has 2...Cap @ 64M

Nuge and JS get their 6M and yak has a year on ELC...Cap has already gone up

Yak gets his 6m and Cap has gone up again...

- OilHorse

Also, no guarantee Nuge, Schultz and Yak are all going to be 6million dollar players. Good chance they won't all be imo.

Even if that's the case, guys like Hartikainen, Jones, and Pajaarvi are likely to be re-signed for very economical contracts this summer that may prove to be VERY good value.

Maybe surgery isn't an option. Maybe his vision hasn't returned to the point where its safe for him to play. Maybe he lied to the doctors to pass his medical exams. Who knows. If a player was ever asked to fake an injury so that a team could add another player, and the PA found out about it, well that would be some nasty business.
- 1970vintage

If it wasn't safe then why has he played 90 + games since the injury? The team doctors can't be that inept. He hasn't had a set back that we heard of . We have heard a roster spot needs to be cleared though.

Just an opinion.

I'm sorry, what is your argument? That the two-time reigning presidents trophy winnners are a better hockey team than a bunch of upstarts on a three-time bottom of the league team? Is water wet?

It seems like your being vaguely antagonistic. I guess it's fun to while away the hours this way.

Yes, it's a very high possibility and almost certain. It's still early in the season and I'm sure teams were matching their shut down lines against them last season too, I would fire my coach if he put our his shutdown line/pair against Horcoff and Smyth instead.

Kesler medically cleared to play and AV made it sound like he'll be back in line up tomorrow with Kass and Higgins.

Last year teams found out about Hall and Eberle too late because scouting reports traveled by carrier pigeon

Hopefully he's 100% and people won't freak out if he struggles at first since it's been almost a year since he's played.

Has anyone else noticed the underachiement to troll ratio

Before when the Leafs were underachieving our boards were filled. Now that they are doing well there is very little trolling . Now it is mostly Oiler fans.

Ott Mtl Wpg all playoff bound very little trolling

CGY never had high expectations so they don't feel the need to troll.

Whatever there chomper, I'm only busting the myth that GM's can make up an injury to make roster moves. I'd be happy to make you a tinfoil hat if you need one to keep the aliens out of your head.

Do I feel bad for Manny to see his career end like this? Sure. But he knew the risks going in, so it's not like I'm up on some soap box pleading for sympathy for him.

And yet while his goal scoring is down his point production is still ~ppg (12pts, 13games). Which is another increase like he has done every year.

Just because I don't acknowledge you as the authority on all things hockey doesn't mean I'm trolling.

Also explain to me why Winnipeg at 11th in the east is any more likely to make the playoffs than Edmonton at 11th in the west?

The better question would be why he thinks the playoffs are anywhere close to set in stone at this point.

I will be very surprised if even two of Montreal, Winnipeg, Ottawa and Edmonton make the playoffs

I'd rather see him on RW opposite Raymond with Schroeder in the middle. That speedy north/south firepower following the Sedin line would create massive match-up problems... Raymond is playing the best hockey of his career beside Schroeder... Add Kesler and I think you have a dynamic (while defensively responsible) 2nd line. No need to have him thinking defense first. Let the OTHER team worry about match-ups for once.

Your posts should be taken with a shot of Bourban, or many shots so we forget them.

If I was MG in the offseason I would have promised Justin Schultz anything he wanted to sign on the dotted line. Once the paperwork was filed with the league I would not care anymore, you own him. I would have given him a shot at top 4 and first unit PP and see how he did, then make a decision on his minutes. Not sure how AV would handle him though.

Odd how? The guy nearly loses eyesight in one eye and likely ends his livelihood.....I don't care the risks or how much he is paid, its a sad tragedy......don't trivialize the situation because he plays a pro sport......
