I think he's saying that with the talent we have, we should be looking to go for the cup every year, trying to improve our team whenever we can. If that's what he meant I agree with that. - Orpik44
I think heatley would fit perfectly. Heatley Crosby dupuis Kunitz Malkin Neal. Min will probably look to unload his contract after signing the deals they did last summer. Heatley's contract will be up before letang and Malkin get their new deals too |

That's the thought
Some comments regarding a few Oilers players we might be interested (Whitney is just for info):
Ryan Whitney
Whitney has no future with the Oilers...I think we all realize that...Sadly, he has no trade value right now either. Don't be surprised if the Oilers play Whitney with Jeff Petry in an effort to get him going. He'll be moved by the deadline to someone.
Ladislav Smid
This was another shocker. I thought Smid would be a slam-dunk to sign a long-term deal with the Oilers. Maybe, or maybe not. He's set to become a UFA this summer, but he wants to stay in Edmonton. If the Oilers can't re-sign him to a reasonable deal by April 3, he could be shipped out. Like I said, a shocker.
Ales Hemsky
There isn't much chemistry between Hemsky and Nail Yakupov. The Oilers love Yakupov, let's start there. He's as untouchable as Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins are. Yet, it looks like Yakupov could play on the 3rd line next game with Eric Belanger and Ryan Smyth. What? Are you kidding me? What kind of weird mish-mash of a line is that? Hemsky might be getting in the way of Yakupov's development, and therefore, he could be dealt. According to my source, there is plenty of interest in Hemsky. - Orpik44
Your source? Also, don't forget a guy like Magnus Paajarvi. He's being mishandled a bit in Edmonton. Could be available. I like what he has to give and he's still a very young player. |

I honestly haven't watched him play a game in a couple years. IF he's still capable of being a 30 goal scorer, I could live with the cap issue next year.
I forgot that you can split some of the cap hit in a trade. If Minny holds on to a couple mil, that makes it more attractive. - rival22
Anybody would give an OK for a trade like that?
Heatley 7.5 mil /Clutterbuck 1.4 mil
for
Martin 5 mil /Kennedy 2 mil/ Pick
I'd do it if they feel Niskanen can take Martin's spot on the Top 4 (which I think he can, in a way)
Letang/Despres
Orpik/Niskanen
Bortuzzo/Engelland
Then we could trade a pick for a D like Gorges or Giordano. |

Pens won't trade Martin and min won't want to lose cal. Also, I forgot heatley has a ntc and he helped recruit suter and parise. Not sure he'd want to leave even for a cup contender

I understand what you're saying by adding Martin in, because of the salary restrictions but I don't see him going anywhere. He has been outstanding and Shero already sat down with him prior to the start of the season and they talked about trade options. Minnesota would be ideal but he doesn't want to leave. I prefer to keep him.

Thanks for understanding my reasoning ![](https://hbcf.s3.amazonaws.com/images/emoticons/thumbsup.gif) ..but I'll be just as glad if something like this didn't go down. Indeed, Paul Martin has been good for us. |

Certainly seems like you do. Kudos! Hard to ignore it. Might as well read it. ![](https://hbcf.s3.amazonaws.com/images/emoticons/lol.gif) - HopintheCordoba
Read it all. Very good article. Our needs right now would be a scoring winger with size for the top 2 lines. Secondly I'd go for a Gorges/Giordano type if needed. If we could flip TK for a better replacement, good. If not, keep him and make him work hard.

I think this should be required reading around here lately:
http://www.hockeybuzz.com...lyers-Quick-Hits/45/49290 - Gunner Staal
Didn't EK say he upgraded the servers recently so crap like this won't happen...
Anyway, yeah I read that post from Meltzer and I couldn't help but think of the ensuing phone call from Ek to Meltzer....
"Hey Bill, don't you understand how I make my money?!?!" "Now shut you rational thinking cake hole and start discussing how the Flyers are going to trade Matt Read for Alex Peitrangelo and Kevin Shattenkirk!!!!" |
