IMO Cooke desreves an extended shift with Malkin's line. He is looking for a new personna, why not power forward? he can bang and create space which is what that line needs. Do not understand why this is an issue? John you are mistaken!

I agree. Cooke showed good instincts playing with Crosby last year. Battle in the corners, go to the net, and create space.

I could see burtuzzo beating out engels for his job... yes engels fights better and is a little more defensive but burtuzzo still gets in guys faces and can shoot and score..

more of a package player in that 5/6th position

- nh4442

Engellend is a security blanket when it gets ugly and he can play. It's hard to find heavyweights who do both.

I like Engelland, but I've seen enough of him to think that Bortuzzo is an upgrade in the long term. Engelland's fighting skills aren't needed in the playoffs as much as a smothering positional defender. Just my $.02

I'm not sure where you fit Bennett in at this point. I think Cooke earned another go with the Malkin Neal line. I don't think you can mess with Sid Duper and Kunitz. I've got to believe either TK or Boychuk is going to watch one or two in the pressbox and Bennett gets limited minutes in the role Boychuk was in. Where occasionally he gets a shift with Sid or Malkin.

Oh well, either way I'm looking forward to seeing what the kid brings to the table.

For the Setoguchi haters, be happy. He didn't produce much yesterday.

0 points, -2 +/- , 1 shot, 1 hit, 2 giveaways, 15:50 ice time.

Based on that he's definitely not coming to Pittsburgh. They'll have a hard time trying to sell him.

Bortuzzo should stay, for sure. Wouldn't trade any of our current d-men. Let's get a winger for a pick+prospect.

Btw, what Tangradi is still doing on the roster in the official site? Tonight we'll play Winnipeg and he's still there.

Heatley - High hockey IQ and skills, bad conditioning/bad salary (at least $3 mil. more than he deserves). He'd be really good on the Pens for this run at the cup.

Yeah, if he was a rental, or the cap was going up next season, then I could live with him. I just don't want him taking up $7.5 mil in cap space next season.

If you're a win now team like Pittsburgh is, you worry about this season before next

Are you inferring the Penguins window is closing? That would be misreading the situation.

That's the thought

Some comments regarding a few Oilers players we might be interested (Whitney is just for info):

Ryan Whitney
Whitney has no future with the Oilers...I think we all realize that...Sadly, he has no trade value right now either. Don't be surprised if the Oilers play Whitney with Jeff Petry in an effort to get him going. He'll be moved by the deadline to someone.

Ladislav Smid
This was another shocker. I thought Smid would be a slam-dunk to sign a long-term deal with the Oilers. Maybe, or maybe not. He's set to become a UFA this summer, but he wants to stay in Edmonton. If the Oilers can't re-sign him to a reasonable deal by April 3, he could be shipped out. Like I said, a shocker.

Ales Hemsky
There isn't much chemistry between Hemsky and Nail Yakupov. The Oilers love Yakupov, let's start there. He's as untouchable as Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins are. Yet, it looks like Yakupov could play on the 3rd line next game with Eric Belanger and Ryan Smyth. What? Are you kidding me? What kind of weird mish-mash of a line is that? Hemsky might be getting in the way of Yakupov's development, and therefore, he could be dealt. According to my source, there is plenty of interest in Hemsky.

I think he's saying that with the talent we have, we should be looking to go for the cup every year, trying to improve our team whenever we can. If that's what he meant I agree with that.

Besides the olympics, I honestly haven't watched Heatley play in a couple of years. IF he still is a 30 goal talent, then I could live with the consequences next season.

I honestly haven't watched him play a game in a couple years. IF he's still capable of being a 30 goal scorer, I could live with the cap issue next year.

I forgot that you can split some of the cap hit in a trade. If Minny holds on to a couple mil, that makes it more attractive.
