I wouldn't be happy with that trade. - canadianpenfan
Neither would I. Bortuzzo has the look of a solid defensive defenseman, something the Pens always seem to need come playoff time. |

But we have no way of keeping him. Our D is only getting stronger every year with our prospects developing. He has a very minimal chance of playing on the team unless injuries come around. Morrow, Dumoulin, and a few others will probably see time with the pens next year. Just like Strait and Lovejoy, Bortuzzo needs to leave in order to see consistent time in the NHL. - drummer829
That's just it, injuries WILL come around, it's unavoidable. On top of that we're transitioning a bunch of youngsters in, what if they don't all pan out? You can never have too much depth, especially on defense. Plus I like the way Bortuzzo plays. But more than anything I just really don't want Seto. |
|

|
Shero has a tendency to surprise us all. Could be Cullen/Clutterbuck/Seto. If Seto comes for TK i'll support him. - Orpik44
That would be an intense trade. |

I respectfully disagree. Bortuzzo was a 3rd round pick, so he's not exactly chopped liver from a pedigree perspective. He has done his apprenticeship in the minors, plays a simple game and provides a physical presence. He's only going to get better....I think he could end up being a Hal Gill type defender. Keep in mind Orpik isn't going to play forever, there's no gaurantee the Pens can sign Letang, and I frankly think Bortuzzo is an upgrade over Engelland right now. Plus the prospects in the minors are just that. There's no telling how they are going to pan out, and you can arguably get more return for one of those guys in a trade because they are mostly puck movers. A guy like Bortuzzo would be a great compliment to the future Pens defense. |

Bortuzzo's skill set is something that the Pens don't really have in the pipeline through. Maybe Harrington fills out a bit, or maybe Roupp (sp?) pans out, but no one has the size, physicality and sandpaper in their game. |

I could see burtuzzo beating out engels for his job... yes engels fights better and is a little more defensive but burtuzzo still gets in guys faces and can shoot and score..
more of a package player in that 5/6th position |

You can't lose Bortuzzo, Strait & Lovejoy, without restocking with at least one more NHL ready d-man. |

Not sure. In the scrimmage I was impressed with his skating for his size, but that's all I've ever seen of him. I've read really nothing about him in WBS. |

Bortuzzo is solid, but he's nothing more than a 5th/6th D man. Unless Shero decides to play him regularly, he's not going to improve as a healthy scratch. Reese has also shown he can be relied on to be called upon |

Agree, Bortuzzo takes Engelland's job next season. Unless you run into a real heavyweight (which are disappearing), guys like Glass or Bortuzzo can handle crap out there.

Problem is that if Reese is your #7, you are a couple injuries away from relying on Joe Morrow or Alex Grant. |

Michael Russo (@Russostrib) tweeted at 7:32 PM on Thu, Feb 14, 2013:
#penguins GM Ray Shero is in Minnesota scouting tonight's #mnwild #avalanche game. Pens looking for top-6 winger
Seto rumor gets started again? Russo is the guy who originally floated the Seto/Despres rumor. - rival22
Seto is a no for me. He isn't a fit. Absolutely worthless. If you want him, give them a third. No D prospect, no Despres, no first. |

Yea I get what your saying. But will Bortuzzo really want to stay here knowing he will always be the 7th guy? |

Heatley. - canadianpenfan
This is a big time pass. 7.5 million worth of underachievement.
|
|
|
|
Anyone on the avs that the pens could use? Too bad stastny is a center and a little overpaid - drummer829
Well, they ain't trading Duchense or Landeskog. Everyone else is a center that is worth something. There is one guy that isn't too bad and could help. Not sure if he can go with Sid and he might be more a third liner, but Jamie McGinn has played pretty well since getting there at the trade deadline last year.

Now if we're trading Bortuzzo for seto, I can deal with that. I think Reese has shown he can be relied on if called upon. - drummer829
I wouldn't be happy with that deal at all.
|
|
|
|
Me either. I think he's become a factor very quickly. Heatley, Clutterbuck, Setoguchi, Hedjuk and Duchene would probably be all on his radar if we are talking Wild and Avalanche - HopintheCordoba
Have interest in Clutterbuck and maybe Hedjuk. Pass on Heatley. Do you know how much he makes for little production?

IMO Cooke desreves an extended shift with Malkin's line. He is looking for a new personna, why not power forward? he can bang and create space which is what that line needs. Do not understand why this is an issue? John you are mistaken! |

Watching a little of the avs vs wild game tonight. Shero should trade letang and malkin for Seto. He is the solution to all their problems. |

Michael Russo: @Russostrib: Clutterbuck missing from #mnwild bench again
He took a stick to the face early in the game
@Russostrib: No Cal Clutterbuck to start the 3rd; Was hurt with 6 1/2 left in the 1st; tried to come back, played 3 shifts in 2nd before leaving #mnwild |

I agree. Cooke showed good instincts playing with Crosby last year. Battle in the corners, go to the net, and create space. |
