Your right. butterfly affect! they get and Vanek and next thing you know they get a superstar goalie, top defensemen, and Hemsky becomes the next Crosby.

Your lying to yourself if you think Edm. who was in terrible shape getting Vanek would make them a top caliber team.

I would say loosing a future hall of famer who goes on to win a cup with the next team would hurt.

Hindsight, of course, is 20/20 but anyone that wouldn't take Hall, Nuge, Eberle and Yak in place of Vanek has their head screwed on backwards.

IMO Van wouldn't have fixed their mess so they would have STILL picked these guys anyways.

SO without the first round picks Edm would have gone other ways to attaract talent. Trades and FA. Since they didn't have to with having such high picks they kept the roster as is.

And who would they have been? Not necessarily the guys the Oilers took. Even if it was, they would still be in Rochester "maturing" or on the bench behind Hecht.
