Thats why I included Girgensons,
As much as I'd like to keep him....
You have correctly pointed out that you have to give to get, and there are surely other teams bidding on him as well...
How many would include their top center prospect in the deal though?
That might give us an edge

- jdfitz77

He's not our top center prospect though.

Grigorenko is.

Ennis is to small we need to get bigger up the middle and O'Reilly does that, forget Stafford that won't work.
- SABRES 89

Ennis is way too small.

Ennis is 5'8 I think and 163

O'Reilly is 6' and 203

two more losses coming right up mhp
I'm an optimist and this current roster will just not get it done.

- sabresfandan

If we lose the next two games dan, a record of 5-10-1 is gonna suck. Might as well face the reality that we'll be sellers at the deadline.

I agree that Ennis plays better at center now but with the RIGHT center I think he would be just as effective if not more at wing.

I actually believe in Stafford, he just needs a serious shake up to get back into it. Maybe its a trade, maybe its a benching, maybe its ripping his A off and giving it to Steve Ott...

I agree 100% that's what I mean, to many teams can make a better offer for O'Reilly because they will move parts, Darcy is to scarred to.
- SABRES 89

Yea if I was COL and I lost Downie, Landeskog, and Johnson long term and my season was all but toast, I'm sitting back and waiting for the best offer. I'm not jumping at Tyler Ennis (even though I think it would be a fair trade) until I see who gets desperate at the deadline

Yes they will, you don't think other GM's know how Darcy operates? they can care less the Sabres want him because they know the other offers will be better.

I wish we had kept him to be honest. He could be playing with Ennis and Foligno right now. I don't think he wanted to play here though unfortunately.

I don't have anything against him at all
You have to give to get
And I don't wanna give up Ennis
You've already mentioned how Ennis is more proven statistically than O'Reilly is

So tell me where Girgensons fits if we have
Hodgson, O'Reilly, Ennis AND Griegorenko?

Trading for a two-way center gives us the versatility to trade a guy who MIGHT develop into a two-way guy YEARS from now
Girgensons most goals scored in the USHL was ONLY 24
That makes me think he's more likely to be a guy who scores under 20goals for us than a guy who scores more than that

Hodgson, Ennis & Grogorenko are all going to be 30goal scorers IMO,
And O'Reilly can contribute NOW

I don't really see where Girgensons would fit,
So I'm ok moving him
But again, it's what I'd do... I obviously don't know Darcy's thoughts

- jdfitz77

Just curious. Have you ever seen Girgensons play? He's pretty good defensively and is exactly what we need.

This is when you know some Sabres fans are on drugs.

I have never seen a player compete with less energy or intensity than Boyes, and that includes Roy, Connolly, and Steve Bernier.

You're not going to have O'Reilly and Ennis. It'll be one or the other.

And Girgensons can play wing. It's where he's been all season in Rochester. Having too many centers is a good problem to have. You can move a center to wing a lot easier than the other way around.

- HonkFortheGoose

Then I prob won't have O'Reilly...
Trading Ennis + for him is dumb
O'Reilly has ?s & wants a big contract, + Ennis has out produced him!
I'd love to get O'Reilly but I'm not gonna make a dumb trade either
And neither will Darcy

at one time that was actually true, but for different reasons.

they really were hoping connolly would come back from injury and he never could fully get it back. roy always sucked but he did score points.

I would think that teams like the Flyers, Bruins, Sens, Habs and Lightning will be the major players for O'Reilly.

O'Reilly is more valuable then Ennis IMO because of his size and grit, I take nothing away from Ennis but we need to get bigger up the middle. We are to small up the middle and it hurt against the teams we have to play against so much. My opinion however.
