That right there is part of the problem, you don't want to give up anything because you think the"future" is going to help us. It hasn't yet my friend so we should stop saying " We can't trade this or we can't trade that". - SABRES 89
The new Columbus guy was a great scout for a long time.
If anyone can draft talent it's him.
I'd have more faith in our ability to draft if I were a Columbus fan them if im a sabres fan.
Also I'd say that Columbus is in a better position to go all out and try to build up. The sabres are in this awkward middle position where we have young talent and older talent and have (until lately -_-) been pretty Middle of the pack in terms of standings.
I wouldn't imagine Columbus envisions themselves hoisting the cup in the next few years. |

Well, we all know Darcy wouldn't. - Powerslave
Darcy wouldn't, but he should.
They would have a young Center that is packed with potential, and at a low & reasonable pay grade, not that it matters much with their current cap situation.
Would it seriously hurt if Grigorenko turned into even Malkin lite? Yup.
However, that's the kind of risk it would take to pry O'Reilly out of Colorado. |

it would be pretty sweet if we could get basically the same player twice from colorado and turn this guy around.
i agree with homer, if by the grace of god we were able to get ryan o'reilly, we would have to give up something that would make us cringe most likely. if you want that player though, you should probably be prepared for that scenario. you have to hope that free agency, and drafting could go well enough for you that in the long run you're not too upset over whatever you gave up to get what you wanted. |

There is such a thing as over payment. Boston traded a goal scorer to a team that thought they were close to being very good. Toronto has been mediocre since the trade and Boston has won a cup and now has studs in Seguin and Hamilton. Boston would have still won the cup with Kessel. Let CBJ take themselves out of the unique situation they have with 3 first round picks in a deep draft to overpay for a guy who may or may not become Michael Peca 2.0 |

Vanek is 29. So I don't want him making 7m at the age of 35. That would suck |

Everything you said I agree with.... BUT we never replaced the point production of Roy. F/A or trade. I thought the ott deal was gonna be one of a couple. I thought wrong. - Smittyx36
I didn't think they were done either. |

new gm wants the guys hes scouted - hubie
I'm thinking Kekaleinen will keep the picks.
He's a scout at heart and a pretty astute judge of talent. Also has his fingers on the pulse of the Euro's too I would assume. Let's face it, it's already blown up. He'll use the picks and start the rebuild. |

I'm being more subtle about it this year. It clearly was something the majority didn't want to hear. That being said, Ott was a good addition, and I thought they could easily replace Roy's "production" by committee. Nobody has at this point.
Ott isn't just an agitator either. He'll take a hit to make a play, and that's what makes him effective. I've always said I want guys like that. I don't care they they never drop the gloves once. - buffalofan19

you don't trade for ROR to put him on the 3rd line. - SABRES 89
Yes, my mistake on calling it a 3rd line.
My point was a line of Foligno-O'Reilly-Girgensons/Armia would be quite effective.
Amia could really benefit from the space opened up by the other two. |

In general.
No player on this team should be "untouchable".
If some gm calls about player x, Darcy should listen.
IMO he doesn't.

as much as I am sick of Darcy, I would bet every GM has their untouchables. In the same breath I bet everyone could be had for a price. Problem is no one is knocking down our door for our underachievers |

The one thing I will "defend" (for lack of a better term) Regeir for, though, is that as the lockout drew closer, teams started to hold up. The only guys being traded were guys they knew had to be off their roster for one reason or another. |
