prospal has shown no interest in wanting to be a flyer. don't want him back for a 3rd time.

I find the lack of full face protection more interesting.

Unlike a visor, or full shield, sock have no impact on a player's vision, and require no adjustments.

On a likelihood of permanent and career-ending injury, skate lacerations are much lower than face injuries. Besides, goalies do it every day.

PS: not disagreeing with you on the sock thing, though.

No question about that, but the socks are an easy change that can be implemented with little fuss or fanfare.

do you think the flyers will try to acquire a backup this season, or will they stand pat with boucher being available. off the top of my head, i can't even think of a guy who they'd want, who's available.
- hammarby31

I think it's possible. Let's say Florida is a seller at the deadline (I think they will be) and the Flyers have pulled themselves up in the standings to be in playoff position (if not, this is a moot discussion). I could see the Flyers adding Jose Theodore as a goaltending depth rental just in case Bryzgalov suffers an injury.

We are on page 6 and not one comment about Shelley possibly having played his last game?

I'm shocked!

Zubrus never should have gone straight to the NHL.

Zubrus for Recchi was a good trade.

Prospal for Daigle, not so much....I'm assuming the Flyers were hoping that Daigle would fulfill his promise of talent...much like Pittsburgh and Minnesota after them.

EDIT** I forgot Fat Balloon was in that trade too

Williams for Markov was def a trade for a need, the Flyers were making the Push in 04 for the Cup and Markov was a good D man.

Pitkanen and Sanderson for Lupul and Smitty was also a good trade, they were remaking the team, and Smith was a hell of a Captain for the Flyers...and Lupul was good at times.....and dont forget we got Pronger in return for shipping Lupul out

Not necessarily true. At the time of the trade from Tampa, he was hoping to be able to permanently live in Florida and not have to relocate his family again. The Flyers made an agreement with him that if he finished out the year in Philly (with his family remaining in the Tampa area), the club would help him get back there assuming the Lightning wanted to bring him back.

After the season, Holmgren made good on his promise by trading Prospal's rights back to Tampa so they could sign him ahead of the start of free agency.

Circumstances have changed since then. Prospal was no longer in the Lightning's plans by 2009, and he got bought out after signing a long-term contract (which he thought would let him finish his career in Tampa).

At that point, he had the choice either to relocate the family again or end his career. He chose the former.

Now he's been in Columbus for a season-plus after two season with the Rangers. Given that he has a no-movement clause, he may or may not be willing to go somewhere as a rental player. I don't think he'd mind Philly (though I have no way to know for sure) since it's already a familiar organization to him and the Flyers had previously made good on a promise Holmgren had made to him.

In hockey terms, I'm not sure if Prospal at this point would be a big help to the Flyers as a second-line guy to play with Briere again. The problem in playing them together even the first time around was that neither is strong defensively; although they did have some offensive chemistry together.

i've been meltzed. didn't know all the back story. that aside, i don't think he's the right guy to look for, assuming CBJ would be looking to move him to begin with, and that he'd have to agree to anway.

Totally made it seem like Lappy was blaming the girl or something along those lines. Maybe even condoning it to an extent. Can't imagine that's what he meant.

Sharp is the worst of all of them. They got nothing in return, and then Sharp helped Chicago beat the Flyers in the Finals five years later.

They do sound a bit callous. Of course, I'm sure he's defending Cousins by accepting the claim that it was a consensual encounter, but the charges are very troubling, to say the absolute least.
