Most churches I've been in were way too sweltering hot to keep decent ice anyways.

Elliotte Friedman reports that Karlsson was NOT wearing a cut resistant sock when he was injured last night. Why they are not mandatory is beyond me.

when you consider that visors aren't mandatory, it's not surprising the kevlar socks aren't either. still a lot of stupidity. and it's amazing more guys don't get cut.

I'm one of the more optimistic folks on here and I didn't see them as more than a 5 or 6 seed at best, heading into the season. This is a young team that is built as much for the future as today and expecting them to win the Atlantic this year would have been unrealistic.

Had they nabbed one of the guys they went after this summer in free agency, then those kind of expectations would be justified.

I'm glad they didn't get any of those guys, especially Suter. Their contracts are terrible and last till the middle of the next decade.

And to add. I think waiting around for those guys to decide what they were going to do might have hurt the Flyers in looking elsewhere for help.

I for one was annoyed as hell they even made offers to Parise and Suter when everyone and their mother knew they wanted to play in Minny Soda.

this was probably the worst, but the light sabre cauterized the bleeding, so it doesn't look that bad.

prospal has shown no interest in wanting to be a flyer. don't want him back for a 3rd time.
- hammarby31

Not necessarily true. At the time of the trade from Tampa, he was hoping to be able to permanently live in Florida and not have to relocate his family again. The Flyers made an agreement with him that if he finished out the year in Philly (with his family remaining in the Tampa area), the club would help him get back there assuming the Lightning wanted to bring him back.

After the season, Holmgren made good on his promise by trading Prospal's rights back to Tampa so they could sign him ahead of the start of free agency.

Circumstances have changed since then. Prospal was no longer in the Lightning's plans by 2009, and he got bought out after signing a long-term contract (which he thought would let him finish his career in Tampa).

At that point, he had the choice either to relocate the family again or end his career. He chose the former.

Now he's been in Columbus for a season-plus after two season with the Rangers. Given that he has a no-movement clause, he may or may not be willing to go somewhere as a rental player. I don't think he'd mind Philly (though I have no way to know for sure) since it's already a familiar organization to him and the Flyers had previously made good on a promise Holmgren had made to him.

In hockey terms, I'm not sure if Prospal at this point would be a big help to the Flyers as a second-line guy to play with Briere again. The problem in playing them together even the first time around was that neither is strong defensively; although they did have some offensive chemistry together.

I find the lack of full face protection more interesting.
